Anybody use a looper? I was thinking about getting one for practice. I don't do solo bass stuff so I am trying to decide if I can justify buying one. I am looking at the DigiTech JamMan Looper Pedal. Thoughts? ...

I've integrated looping into my show pretty severely at this point... I'd say it's do-able to use loops in ensemble playing, but it's definitely easier as a soloist... the biggest problem with using loops in a group is making sure each player hears the loop loud enough... if not everyone is feeling it, then not everyone will play to it.

As for gear, everyone's feel is different, and so is every looper I've tried. The JamMan responds differently than the Boss Loop Station (which I use), and both of them are very different from the Line 6 gear.

The best looping gear I've ever seen is the "Looperlative" unit. Google it; it's absolutely ridiculous!

I'm using the JamMan - i really dig it.

Don't do any live shows with it - but it rules for simply recording your stuff or "jamming".
You can programm drumloops on your pc, save them as wave and copy onto your looper. Than you can record yourself playing to it. Great for practicing any kinds of rythms. Also for composing work.
It's pretty expansive for just a fun-tool, but the aspect of serious practicing made it worth the price for me.

I'm using my RC-50 again now I worked out why it wasn't working...

... i lost the original power supply and the one I have now is switchable voltage. For some reason I'd decided to change the supply to 6V. I don't have anything that runs on 6V!! And forgot to change it back. Yes. I'm a tool.

Anyway, I'm fairly sure the RC-50 is the next most powerful looper to the looperlative. The looperlative really is quite some gear, check out Steve Lawson's more recent stuff (Behind Every Word and onwards) to hear what you can do with it. Mind blowing.

i now own a RC-50. its very inclusive. does a hell of a lot of stuff, and does it well.

ive just got to learn how to use the bloody thing now
