Knob Appeal....!!

Good people of the Warwick forum....I am turning to you for help!

The story goes like this.....

As I think I mentioned here before, I have a lovely old '87 Streamer...one of the originals with the one-piece bridge. Anyway, last year I needed to replace the electronics decided to stick with the original EMG but upgrade to the EMG BQC system with the stacked Bass/Treble & mid/freq. When I got the bass back, I was shocked to see plack plastic knobs instead of nice gold metalic ones like the originals. After screaming at the guy that fitted the electronics, he said he could find replacements, but all he did was to (unsuccessfully) drill out some MEC ones to fit....they didn't and I screamed some more....

And since then I have been on a quest to find a set of gold dome knobs to fit. I have tried just about every supplier that I can think of and done countless net searches.... but nothing. At the moment I have 2 Warwick replacement knobs for the volume & pickup blend that I got from the Bass Center - London (where I bought the bass from) but they don't make the stacked knobs to fit the EMG pots - the shafts are bigger apparently...and so I have 2 horrible flat-top stacked knobs that I got from Allparts.....




discusting eh...!!!

So that's the challenge....can anyone help me find a set of gold, metalic dome knobs that will fit the stacked EMG pots. I am willing to pay an obscene amount of money....well quite a lot anyway!!!

When I read this Adrian,I didnt get it.Then when I did,I split my sides laughing.Thanks mate,I needed that. :lol:

damn i need to d/l more southpark! haha. sry for the rant. gd luck with the knobs! or why not go with custom wooden knobs? smth along the lines of african blackwood. Fbass uses them.
 
I too have thought about putting EMG pickups and an EMG EQ in my Thumb NT, but I had heard the shafts won't work with the original knobs, so I decided to stay with the original MEC setup.

As far as I can tell, it will require a custom fabrication or a proper modification of a set of Warwick knobs by either a custom guitar luthier/shop or a metal fab shop...
 
Boring out a set of existing knobs should be the job of an idiot. If they can't do that for you, they're seriously Jerry's Kids.

Try looking on Allparts... there's one in US and one in the UK... try whichever is the easiest... something like Allparts.com or Allparts.co.uk. They've got all kinds of bits and may be able to help!
 
How is the EMG electronics package?
Is it (1) a little box wired to the pots, or is it (2) a printed circuit attached directly under the pots?

If (1) is correct, then I think that the best thing to do is to check the MEC catalogue.
They made all kind of pots.
Find the pots with the correct rating for your EMG electronics, and replace the ones you have installed on your bass.
Then you'll be able to use MEC golg knobs on your Streamer.

There's no need to use the pots supplied with the EMG electronics, unless of course you are in the (2) situation

Yeah...I did consider that - and will probably go that way if I don't get any joy with the existing knobs.
