Karnivool in Brisbane..Warwick-y goodness!!

Hey guys! Haven't been posting for a little while but i have still been dropping into the forum whenever i can. Hope everyone is keeping happy and well!8:
Anyways last Wednesday a little aussie band called KARNIVOOL played at the HI FI bar here in Brisbane. If you haven't checked out Karnivool do yourself a favour cos they are great!! Sound Awake is their latest offering and it is unbelievably good. An added bonus is that Jon Stockman, bass player for the band, plays Warwick Thumb NT 6 string basses exclusively. His tone and feel are great and his articulation and interplay with drummer Steve Judd is fricken awesome. The whole band sounded great and the live mix was perfect for a band that goes from ambient to heavy prog metal in the blink of an eye. The multi talented Ian Kenny also sounded great as usual(check him out in Birds of Tokyo, great stuff). All in all a great night.Cheers Guys!!!
 
heh...must admit that I had nevah heard bout Karnivool before...imho they don't pay much/enuff attention to Aussie bandz on this side of da planet...:confused:
But yo enthustiac wordz made me curious so I checked da Youboob...tbh I'm not a big fan of da music style but I found a song that I really like...

Karnivool are one of those bands I always avoid if I'm feeling emotional.
Call me a weirdo,but when I was going to court over custody of my son,Karnivool could almost bring me to tears.
That's not to say I dont adore them.

I've been turned onto Karnivool and aussie rock in general by anarchyok a couple of years back, since then Karnivool, Cog, Dead Letter Circus and The Butterfly Effect have become some of my favourite bands, I really like the down-under sound, love the delays !
Sound Awake is album of the year 2009 in my book !
 
Oh man, I saw Karnivool at the Relentless Garage in Highbury (London) in March this year.

Was the best £9 I have ever spent.

Thouroughly incredible band.

Themata (song) and New Day are utterly amazing live! If you like Tool, A Perfect Circle or anyone in a similar vein, go check them out!

And their bassist plays a beautiful 6 string Corvette too.
 
Mammal are another Aussie rock band you guys might like.They unfortunatly called it quits recently,but I think they might be re-forming sans singer.They have a killer album out.The bassist,Nick Adams,used my Streamer to record all the tracks except 1 where he used a P-bass.

@ Laszlo- thanks a heap for finding that vid from the brisbane show mate and the moshcam vid is sick too. Definitely agree with you with 'sound awake' being my album of the year for 2009 too.
Cool greg hopefully mammal get a good singer and start playing again...great stuff with your streamer too mate.
 
Apparently I am very well informed about the current happenings in aussie rock 8:
I was on the Mammal mailing list, so I got some news about the guys' new project, which is called Black Devil Yard Boss, but it's without Nick Adams on bass - it's just the drummer and the guitarplayer.

slightly OT but still in aussie waters, the new Dead Letter Circus video features some nice slo-mo Thumb bo and Framus action, well worth checking out :)

another great vid Mr Demeter....speaking of Dead Letter Circus i caught up with the drummer(an old friend of mine) at the Karnivool gig in Brisbane...Mr Luke Williams. Awesome drummer and cool person too.
 
I'm actually starting to consider emigrating to Australia :roll: I probably couldn't handle the heat, though.
You guys know any cool jobs for a not so gifted videofx guy/bassplayer?
I think I'd make a great lawn-mower operator ! srsly :|

I dont think you'd have to resort to mowing lawns Lazslo,& you'll soon get used to the heat in summer.

I was just checking my options, anyways, at the moment I'm well content with living in my peaceful hometown which is about at 60 kms from where Vlad Tepes a.k.a. Dracula was born 8:
 
One of the good things about forums is that you hear of new bands...I have never heard Karnivool but I must say they are one of the best bands I`ve ever heard. Killer sound of Jons thumb

hmmm good point Laszlo....esp Jon Stockman from the'vool..he has been playing the 'W' for ages now.
