Karaoke...

...That's right.

I said it, Karaoke.

How many of us bass players get a chance to be in front of the microphone, aside from karaoke.

I was just watching an episode of King of the Hill on Hulu that reminded me of an experience I had at Saints and Sinners in Daytona Beach Florida whee a few of my gorgeous bartender friends of mine got me drunk enough to go on stage and do karaoke. I did manage to save face and perform Motorhead's "Ace of Spades," and to much applause. I was asked several times what band I sang for, and sadly, I had to reply, "None, I'm a bass player."

So, I was curious, how many of you all have had a similar experience where you were able to shine as the front man of your band (limelight solos included) or if any of the rest of you excel in karaoke, lol.

I didn't know I was good, apparently so, as my friend's band members are offering me a side project with me as the lead voice.

well i got to tell a story thing on the mic and introduce the band, and i had my solo fills in good times bad times, its fun

I sing just under half of the songs we do and backing vox on most of the others.

We do covers at the moment but it's good practice and we make a few bob, so I'm not complaining....I do want to find a proper band though!

Karaoke is a great laugh - especially if you can actually sing and everyone else can't...makes you look like a total pro!

I don't know about anyone else but my bass becomes a bit of a comfort blanket on stage - I feel naked without it!

Im the same, a few projects I sing lead on, but as Gman said, I feel very naked without my bass in hand..

Karaoke can be fun, especially if you have had a few too many!!

Agreed. My wife makes me do karaoke, and I get so nervous, and sweaty. I never get like that when playing gigs.
