Hey guys,

I was recently on Youtube and discovered this:



I think it's awesome. Seeing as I have a 6-string bass I thought it might be a good idea to learn how to play something like this but I have no idea where to find tabs for this exercise. Can anyone help me out? I would really appreciate it!
 
John Myung is a great player.

Id use your ear rather than tabs.. there isnt too much too it, plus its a video, you can see where he's placing his hands. Bridge pickup solo'd, the first thing over the 2nd fret is just a rake. The hint is that the best harmonics are over the 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th frets and thats where he uses most of them :wink:

I used to be a big DT/John Myung fan, severely underrated player and he's great at what he does. I listened back to Dance of Eternity and im wondering how the hell I played that for my audition piece for uni years ago.
Those dubs are hilarious though. That guy knows what he's doing.
 
Dream Theater is quite easy to figure out. I played Solar Groove by Myung for my Berklee Audition back '03. But their music is just fast, not really complicated, they play using a lot of theory and excersices and playing them in a very fast tempo. I do admire their virtuosity though, and think that they are great performers.
 
i am pretty sure that is from his instructional video "progressive bass concepts"

it has been a while since i have watched it, and my copy is in storage. the booklet included has notation and tablature for all of the excercizes that he demonstrates in the video.
 
I really like John Myung's playing. He's really versatile, and highly skilled. He's almost a shredder but whatever, I like his style.
 
I`ve never really gotten into the DT-thingy, though I`ve tried most of their cd`s and dvd`s. Mostly, the singer ruins it for me.

I think J Myung is one of the best bass players in alive, and he is my favourite bass players. Now I try to learn from he the bass secrets.

I really like John Myung basslines some of them are pretty simple but yet pretty cool, for example the tapping intro in Scarred from the Awake album.
But I must confess that his progressive bass concept video was the most annoying thing I've ever seen :oops: still the Solar Groove is a really cool tune that I love to play all the time and the reason why I got that video.

Also Mr Myung was one of my main influencies to get into the 6 string world.
 
Damn, I want (need?) a 6 string !
 
For the time being you can tune your 5ver in fifths :P you would get even more range than with a 7er.

The drawbacks are relearning the instrument...

Now I remember when I said to myself what would a bass player need 6 strings for?

Lucky those days are gone :D

not necessary, you can sing on 5 or 4 strings , but you need 24 frets

for example, i sing this song on 4 strings because i don`t have a 5/6 strings bass guitar
 
It's not that I can't play the things I want on my 5er, it's more like I'm attracted by these big wide necks, with 6 strings. I've played some 6 string and there's such a wiiiide range, amazing.


I'll have to get one anyway... (For 2008 I'm planning a CS Streamer LX 6 :roll: , it should be kickass :D ... Just have to find a STABLE job.)
