Jack Bruce signature

I'm puzzled! I'm no expert on the Thumb range and certainly wouldn't claim to know a lot about the Jack Bruce signature model however I found this bass on eBay...



Now the 24th fret inlay, LEDs, controls/switch, dble battery compartment etc all indicate that this is genuine BUT I thought all of the 'signatures' on the body were factory inlays. This one looks badly hand drawn and features a Greenpeace style emblem underneath his name, which I don't recall the factory production models having, does that seem wrong to others?

I've no idea why anyone would do that and it can't be a fake as all of the other details are correct. Is it one of JB's own basses? A puzzle!
 
Looks right to me...not sure which bit you're confused about? a greenpeace type logo? eh?

Nice looking bass...he's got it wrong though...thats a wenge neck.

The CND (that's the term I was searching for) logo under his signature. I just did a search on the Warwick site and his signature bass has an inlay of his signature which definitely doesn't have that circular CND logo under his name! I can't see Warwick hand carving every individual signature and making them subtly different... A quick Google also revealed several images of the JB signature fretted Thumb and none had that logo under his signature!
 
If you look closely, there are more small discrepancies with the signature. It's not a Jack Bruce Sig.

I thought it looked very badly drawn rather than 'signed'. It isn't flowing as you'd expect a signature to be and certainly doesn't look like a CNC machined inlay!
 
My bad! Not sure how I missed that...

..are you sure they were inlaid and not just signed? That sig would be an absolute nightmare to inlay...

Warwick site says 'His signature has been embedded on the body as a Mother-of-Pearl inlay'.

I don't know if there was an earlier model that maybe wasn't inlaid on the body (but was at the 24th fret) and someone has applied the signature to 'big it up'!

I'm sure that I have seen JB's signature with the CND symbol as part of the signature but I'm not sure that it ever appeared as part of the inlay or Signature Series basses. Do we have any JB experts that know the history of his signature basses?

One thing crossed my mind... wasn't there a fretless signature version? Could it be that someone has fretted up a fretless version!

50 fretted and 50 fretless

Is the the suspect body on the bay even pommele as advertised? :?
 
If that's bubinga it's the tamest and dullest slab I've ever seen...
Edit: And the Jack Bruce signature does NOT have a nameplate.
This one's busted!

maybe the older version fretted. Because a nameplate on a fretless bass won't be very good right?
 
why release a fretted version at all, if ur a JB fan and want 2 sound like JB then you play fretless or fret EB0s surely :D
 
Tough one...........

The price is fair though...........But the signature really looks "handmade". Since it has a wenge neck, maybe it is just a predecessor of the current JB Thumb............ :roll:

Hmmm. Is it vintage? It can't be 'that' unusual or particularly cheap because I'd have thought it would be snapped up in the first 24hrs or at least when it gets singled out on a Warwick forum!

In the current market I'd say that could be considered cheap but I've seen 5 string NT Thumbs advertised for £700 and 80's Thumbs for £800 and they are NOT eBay prices but actual items for sale at that price... not good times for selling a Warwick :cry:
