Hello all!
I know it's been awhile since any of you've had the displeasure from reading another post from this jerk in a while, but hey, I'm finally back. Back, and happier than ever.
The short version that explains my absense, is simply; "Life happens." (Replace "life" with other four letter word of choice, if neccessary.)
A lot of things have changed in my life since I last posted / visited here, I think for now I'll leave them unsaid, after all, I got nothing after this post, might as well stir up some mystery, yeah?
Anyway, to report on something from the low-end home front...
I recently (three weeks ago) joined a band from Lima, Ohio known as Auditory Addiction, and low-and-behold, last night was our very first live performance! I have to say, I missed the stage, I missed that electricity that hits you when you're up, for sure. Over all, I think we really blew people away with our sound, and most of all, our talented members.
Anyhoo, if any of you remember, last time we put the book down, Ryan was contemplating getting rid of his Warwick Corvette, for something a little newer, a little more exciting perhaps? Well, in the end, he listened to the smart old salty dogs, and decided to keep'er.
Well, he's damn happy he did. And more-so, his band is damn happy he did. The first time I unpacked her, the first time I plugged her in, and all the way through last night, when she cut her first live mix ever, the guys have been impressed.
I think the Pro Line may be the perfect bass to compliment my style, after all, drop D and two heavily distorted six strangers ain't all to easy to romp on when you're holding four strings in your left palm.
I actually went out just yesterday and picked up a nice little addition to the family as well. After some shopping, searching, and bargain hunting, I decided it would be most feasible to stick with Ampeg for the time being. After all, Mesa ain't so cheap on a blue collar factory worker's salary. (See how I'm starting to integrate little life updates here and there? :lol
So, I went to Guitar Center down in Miamisburg to test out the Ampeg SVT-410HLF this past Tuesday. First through an Acoustic 200W head (which is about the same power I push through my PB250) and then using a GK700rb... I know, I know, for lack there of a better head, right? (These were literally two of maybe five heads in the bass room... WTF!? :shock Anyway, I figured if I liked'er, I could take'r home cheap for the Labor Day Extravaganza... Anyway, needless to say, I thought the HLF was absolute fart.
I mean, don't get me wrong people, if it's your cup of tea, then by all means, love'r like she'd leave ya. However, I ended up back at my local shop in Lima, Bob's Music to test out the sister cab, the SVT-410HE... Which is now sitting in the back of my Blazer, still "ohhhing" and "ouching" from the gauntlet she went through last night. :twisted:
I'm still using my little PortaBass head, but hey, it actually works! I figured I would need at least 400W to cut through two guitar players at 100W a piece (especially these guys.
) However, that little bugger, and that cab served me MORE than well last night. I was receiving all kinds of compliments, I think I almost know what it's like to be a father! :shock:
Anyway, long story longer, I'm extremely happy I stayed within the Warwick family, and I'm actually tickled to death to own the Ampeg gear that I do.
However, I find myself peeking around the corner at the Peavey VB-2 and matching 8X10 from time to time... Bob's is actually going to stop carrying Ampeg in favor of the Peavey line... Is this destiny? Is it a sign? (This will make two brands of bass amplification they will provide, MESA being the other.)
I've never noodled around on a Peavey rig, aside from the old TNT's and what not, and I wasn't the least bit impressed.
Regardless, I think I'm being bitten by the tube bug. But at the same time, I'm extremely happy with my solid state tone at the moment as well. I mean, 200W+ of tubey goodness for around $800US, that's unheard of! But there's Hartley, sitting in the corner, tempting me to buy sight unseen again.
Shame on you Hartley, you know I can't do that!!!
Well, I just thought I'd write up a little ditty here, and let you guys know I'm still alive, still kickin, still workin, and if the little lady comes over tonight... (Children need skip this part of the post.) Still lickin'! :lol:
