It's a crime...

That's somebody's personal vision about what their bass should be, but I'd say it kinda looks like plastic. :)

I dont like the absence of upper horn personally...
 
I quite like high polish finishes. But this satin finish makes the bass look like plastic.

I know, it hides the wood, so that you have to hear the bass to have more of an idea of what the wood is being used for the tone.

It gives mystery, and I love a good mystery.
 
It might be the satin solid colour that makes it look different, havent seen much of that around. But covering the grain is no probs for me, check out the 6banger thumbNT with the airbrush blue and custom inlays in the gallery- DREWL!
 
I could be wrong, but I do think that Warwick use a less figured wood when they know they'll cover it with a solid finish. Or maybe not. After all, the price includes a figured wood, and when it goes thru the construction stage, maybe they pick up wood as if it were a natural finished bass. I don't know. I'm confused. Haha.
 
I wonder if the new owner will ever drill into the bass to make sure it's Bubinga Pomelle and Swamp Ash under that blue?

Actually, I think the bass looks kind of cool, but I agree it seems strange to order an exotic top, then paint it with blue satin.

I guess the owner wants the timbers for their tone, not their looks.

Actually, that's standard for a Thumb SC to have a Bubinga Pommelle Top over a Swamp Ash Body. My guess is that he either didn't want to pay extra for the change, or he didn't care to change, or he just wanted a blue Thumb SC with gold hardware.

I'm not up with my Thumb SC specs ;)
 
Yeah, it´s a crime to cover those beautiful woods with a solid color, but, in this case, if you change the "standard" woods in the Thumb SC for plain woods, the price tag will be huge.

This is a matter of tastes. you may not like how it looks, but I´m sure who paid for it is the happier bass player right know because he/she got his/her dream bass. :)
 
It was ordered by FLAA. Swedish distributor. Samuel, did you order that thing? Haha.
 
You should get a discount if you downgrade timbers in the CS! save a couple hundred by getting plain bubinga.
 
Eventually if you keep downgrading, you might get the bass for free :-)

I am afraid this is not the way the Custom Shop is working. We have the official specs for one instrument. If you want it different, especially for you, you will pay. No matter what the change is, it is an extra customisation.

I really like the finish. AFAIK custom shop is about having a bass YOU want for YOURSELF, there are exceptions of course but I believe that's the general idea. 1" top is pretty thick and affects the sound a lot.
