I totally didn't get what you meant.

You are saying that you don't see the bottom ot the neck where the strap pin is? Not have owned a NT bass I don't know. It does look smooth though.

Having taken a quick look at the SSII then I think it just isn't viewable from top profile.

but you are probably right about why we can't see the neck wood

that would mean here are 3 layers of different types of wood on the centre of the body, fanncy
 
The necks there.Ya cant see it from the angle of that pic is all.
 
I think it's just a case of bad photoshop because on the back pix you can clearly see it going all the way to the butt.

Ash back, maple top, maple neck. Probably ebony Fb. What a bass, what a bass!!!!
 
It looks like a mix of $$ and jazzman streamer... a $$ with a jazzman body wood configuration
 
Going back to CS-304, it looks to me like you *can* actually see a tiny slither of the neck wood at the bottom of the bass. In the main picture, about an inch down from the strap pin you can see a black line across the mahogany which shows where the wood was cut to insert the neck, and if you follow that line to the back of the bass, you can then see a pixel-width line of maple running up towards the strap pin.
