I was asking myself - what could be the reason that every single change on a bass costs a fortune incl. downgrading

But for a lefty there is no extra charge

So is this the reason?

I like the logic behind this thinking of yours. Maybe the right reason, because it the only thing that could explain why they don´t charge a fortune for it. 8:

I asked him, the answer was easy to understand. HPW wants to treat all people equally. That´s why the same price.


And the calculation works very easy:

A left handed Streamer Stage 2 costs 5.235,45 €. A right handed one would cost 1.500,- EUR. Now they levelled the right handed model price to 5.235,45 € too. Now the balance is made! It´s that simple. And a substantial contribution for the rights of left handed people! I appreciate this a lot!!!

I would rather know why downgrading actually costs more money.

Surely they could come up with a cheaper method.. like perhaps allowing certain changes/downgrades free of charge, only charging for changes that are an extra cost to produce.

I wanted a tedur justanut and nickel frets instead of brass on a custom shop, purely for aesthetics as it was to be an all black bass, and it cost more than the solid brass JAN and bell bronze frets, even though they are cheaper parts

One of my treasures is a Infy NT5 CS. Someone called it "the stealth bass" because it´s all black. Know the body wood? Bookmatched AAAA flamed maple! Do you see anything of it? No chance. A flamed maple would cost upcharge.

I had my private factory tour and I think I know the answer at least for such features: they preproduce a lot. Changing any option means they have to produce a separated body or neck, they can´t take it off the shelf. For other features this is pure nonsense ofc., just the profit they can make because it´s "custom shopped".
