Intonation problem with new strings

Hi,

I just replaced the strings on my 5-str. Corvette Std. for the first time and have a slight intonation problem.

The problem is that the B-string is still too sharp at the 12th fret and I can't turn the intonation screw any more because the spring on the intonation screw seems to be maximally tightened and going any further might damage it. I just barely managed to get the E-string correct.

So what can I do? Also, the new strings are D'Addario EXL170-5SL regular light gauge, .045 - .130.

Depending on how much further back the saddle needs to go... You can try turning the saddle around in the carrier. If you'll notice, they are angled with the string's release at the front edge - facing pickups - of the bridge. Turning it around with relocate the release point about 1.5mm back, which might solve the problem. The other solution is to trim the spring a bit at a time until it allows the necessary adjustment whilst maintaining forward pressure. ~M~

I would try by removing the spring completely. Just make sure you "push" the saddle carrier away from the tailpiece to remove play before tuning the low B string. Once the string is in tune, it will exert a force to the carrier, just like what the spring does.
