In quite the predicament! (SP?)

I've been offered a full time job at a bit higher pay than my manager. I will be doing housing maintenance... The problem is, I'm currently living in the dreaded HUD ran apartment complex. Which mean I have to pay 30% of my income for rent.

Now with this job, I will be making well over the allowed limits to live here, which means I may have to move. Now do I take the chance with the job and move out finding another apartment? Or play it safe, pass the job up and keep this apartment which I know I will never have trouble keeping up on rent with.
 
Sometimes taking a risk is worth it. I myself would definitely go for it.

What kind of money are we talking about?
 
Nothing fancy...

I will have in the range of $3,000 a month income.
 
i'd look at budgets etc, if you take the job and have to move how much will the rent in a new place be? as you may actually have more money sticking put instead of getting a new apartment.

It depends really what you want change can be good, + if its a more enjoyable job.

If getting a new appartment, new job = better/happier for you and you get the bonus of some extra cash i'd go for it! - if not is it worth the risk?
 
Casey - This economy around here is in the toilet and will likely continue to suck some major testes for quite awhile. Take the job and take the $$$ while you can get it bro. Don't screw around with the cash - save as much as possible and if you do have to move out, get the cheapest place where you can feel safe and stick it out til the next better opportunity comes along, then take that one too. Yeah, I'm leaning towards it a bit... The place I'm looking at is tiny though... Only a little 1bed/1bath place... So I'll problaby have to thin down and sell some stuff.

I figure though, If I do take the place...I will have around $800-$1,000 extra a month to throw around and have some fun with.

I was hoping for free rent here, since I would of been on-site maintenance... But they decided against that. Apparently it's only $10hr starting and theyre going to bump it up drasticly apparently after 3 months... But in the end, Getting another apartment would be cheaper... And I guess this is my only way to get out of HUD. So I might as well take it.

The sucky thing is, I have no money put back into savings... And it's usually around $300-$400 deposit to get into a place. So it looks like I may have to get a loan from my family (which I hate doing)

I'm selling my Trace cab on craigslist right now to fund some of this move (if I finally decide on it)
 
Don't be complacent, make progress, Casey. Take the better job, do your job well, get a raise, get promoted, lather, rinse, repeat.
 
yah im gonna have to agree, u should take it, u could get a place pretty cheap these days, and who knows in five or 10 years, the market could go up drastically, and you could sell the home and move somewhere nicer and bigger, who knows, its all about moving forward and the future, good luck to you casey, you kick ass at bass
 
Hey Casey, I also say go for it, you have had some average times of late, and you know that a change is as good as a holiday, it will be like a new begining for you, work hard, impress the SH#T out of them and save a few $$$.

I've managed to make a deal with them... I'm staying at these apartment and making almost the same amount of money. The rent with be a bit lower though, So I figure I'll have quite a bit of left over money at the end of each month for savings or whatever I feel like blowing it on :P (I really should save it though...)
 
I think what you're saying is... you did a bit of negotiating!

When it comes to other things (not so much life related) I'll jump right in before even thinking...

But with stuff like this, I like to play it safe. Maybe that's a weakness of mine... I dunno. But it's nice to live on your worksite, and be able to run back home and play some bass if your bored and the boss isn't looking :P
 
I know that most of the advice was to go for it... but I tend to be rather "risk averse" myself. You have to go with what you're comfortable with and it's turned out OK.
 
if you haven't sold you cab yet, try and keep it. even though your well being is far more important than your bass gear, it would suck not having all the nice gear around

:idea: save & buy a home of your own.It's the wisest move I ever made.
