I will announce my ignorance again. LOL!

I have three Warwicks I want to own over time.
Flaming Blonde, Thumb NT, and SSII. (Fun ones would be a buzzard and a dolphin.)

My question is about the wood.

What difference is there between a Corvette and a Thumb if the wood is the same. It appears the pickups are situated differently...Which would make a different sound. But, past that, if the wood is the same...And, the neck is the same. What real difference is there?

I saw a Dolphin that has the same wood and neck as the Thumb. Would they really sound different?

the body wood is not the same. The 'vette has a swamp ash or bubinga body, while the thumb has an ovangkol body.

The thumb BO has an ovankol body
The thumb NT has a bubinga body
The reason the thumb NT and the
Corvette sound different because
the pickup placement. The pickups
on the thumb NT are much closer to
the bridge and thats what gives it that
growl. The corvette has growl also
that comes mainly from the woods
the bubinga,the ovankol, the wenge.
But most growl comes from a combination
of all that including the pickups.

Well, that's a valid question John poses. When reading it I started to think if there are basses in the Warwick product line that have the
same body/neck woods and construction type (bo/nt/sn), and only differ in body shape/pickup placement/electronics, and if/how they
differ sonically. I don't think there are any. (Well, now that I think of it, the Streamer Stage II and the Thumb NT...)

Kyle, don't forget the Thumb NT is well, NT. That makes quite a difference.

There's a thread by our mod Florin, who recently acquired a standard Corvette Ash, with the only difference being the pickup placement.
You might want to have a look, as there are sounds clips of the bass, and lower in the thread you can find a clip of a Corvette with
standard pickup placement for comparison.

Everything has an influence in a bass's sound.
The biggest influence comes from:
Body Wood,
Pickup type, and pickup position
Neck wood
Construction (NT vs BO)
Fingerboard wood.
But beside those, really everything from body size, body shape, has an influence in sound.
