i have a dilemma
when i raise the bridge to increase string tension, the action past the 12th fret is to high for finger tapping. when its low enough for finger tapping, the strings are floppy. i cant find the balance! maybe it needs truss rod ajustment but im not confident in doing it myself

i need some recommendations on strings that are naturally tight. ive heard good stuff about the DRs. im disputing between the fat beams (Marcus Miller signature) or the hi beams.
PLEASE HELP!

I love DR's, espicially Fat Beams, but I read on the package of SunBeams, if I remebers correctly, it says they are great for tapping. I don't tap so I have never tried them. Let us know what you end up with...

Juzzo,

Perhaps it's not necessary to shell out money for expensive strings... maybe you should simply try a lighter gauge.

There are plenty of misconceptions out there about heavier strings giving a heavier sound... not entirely true. it's been talked about previously on the forum.

Lighter strings actually allow for more playability at higher tension, which sounds like the remedy for what you're talking about. If you aren't happy with the way the lower strings respond when you're NOT tapping once you go lighter, you may need to put together your own custom gauge (maybe .40- .60 - .85 - 1.05).

Finally, as your cheapest option, I'm going to suggest something that I hope you take the right way, as I'm not out to offend you:

Practice tapping harder. That's how the rest of us learned it.

:)

nah mate, none taken. guess il jus have to work in my presicion. im very optimistic and open to constructive criticism 2 anyone readin this.
thanx 4 ur help.
greg (the greg, u kno) told me 2 get a setup and less bow in the neck. il consider a lighter gauge, see if i can get a hold of some1 who runs it n try their bass.
