I need a new neck....

Hi everyone, this is my first post to this forum. I have a standard 4 string Corvette with a warped neck, so I am looking for a replacement. Mine is Oviknol with wenge fretboard. Where do I find one, and how much should I expect to pay for a straight neck?

As far as I know, the only way to replace a neck is to send in the defective neck to Warwick. As to a price, I don't know... but I'm sure someone does!
 
talk to your warwick dealer or warwick distributor and they will let you know what to do in this matter. :wink:

Is our US Warwick contact. The process
could be discussed with any of their reps
via the phone number provided on the site,
or through one of their email contacts.

I'm pretty sure the process will involve
removing your Corvette's neck, and sending
it in. DBG may even have some on hand,
which would definitely shorten the whole
schpiel up a bit.

You can purchase a replacement neck from Warwick, but you need to return the defective neck to them as well. It won't be cheap... There is a price break down on pg. 18 of the Warwick retail price list for neck exchanges based on the number of stings and wood types involved.



Looks like your Ovangkol/Wenge 4 is 214 UK pounds = $321 USD retail (approx). Not sure how you go about things with Dana B. Goods on the outs... Florin or Greg should be able to let you know whom to contact.

Another alternative is to call around, locally, and find out who the best luthier is. Contact them, and set a time to take your bass in for a repair quote. Most warped necks can be de-fretted and then planed or sanded back to usability. You'll also end up with a new fret job as well.

This will probably run you somewhere in the neighborhood of $300 USD, give or take...

+1. I didn't even think to post that.

Some times all you need is a new
truss rod.

That can be the best option of all, given availability of a good luthier.
The benefit is that your current neck is now extremely stable, as it has
already moved. Of course, it's better if that never happened, but from
where you stand now, if the cost is similar, replaning and refretting will
give you a neck more trustworthy than new.

Some luthiers will offer to heat-set the neck rather than actually do the
woodworking. This is not a scam. It costs less, works well in a majority
of cases, but is not any better than a new neck; whereas a replaned
neck IS better than new, since the wood has now assumed it's natural
and stable "posture".

And of course, if you've been considering a fretless, this is the time to
consider it more seriously. It's a more intruiging opportunity with some
other brands, where a luthier is your only way to get an ebony FB ....
but it's still a good time to give FL a thought. You would save yourself
the refretting cost. And hey, maybe you'd prefer a purpleheart FB !!!

Hi Koy.
Give Dana B Goods a call on (800) 741-0109.
You'll need to send your defective neck to them,they will access it & if necessary,supply a replacement at cost if the bass is no longer under warranty,which applies for 2 years to the original buyer & requires receipts of purchase from a Warwick dealer.

Thanks to all that responded. Just after posting this, I found Dana B Goods phone number on the net and gave them a call. I had to be tranferred to someone but only got a voicemail. Left a message, but as of today, did not hear back. Perhaps tomorrow. I will repost with what happened when I hear. Its my favorite Bass, so I will definately get something done. Thanks again for all your input.

Really, the best thing to do is to call back until you get someone. They have great customer service, but they are notorious for not calling back and for not replying to emails. Best of luck to you!
 
Ok, here's the skinny. I finally got in contact with Dana B Good, and was told that they cant help me. They are losing thier US distributership after January 1. A new company Named "Hanser" will be taking over the Stateside Operations of Warwick effective that date, or so the guy said.
I have a friend in Luxomborg (sp) that I will contact and see if he can get anything done from a European perspective. Other than that, I guess Im stuck trying to get it repaired. Fat Chance here in "Nowhere" Texas!..LOL
Anyone had any luck with the European Point of view?

Wow, we all knew that DBG was losing the
US Distributor deal, but, I didn't think it would
affect the way they do business.

January 1st is still quite a ways off...

I'd try to contact one of our mods here, I'm
sure Flo and/or Greg would be able to help out.
 
This is the first I've heard of Hanser. I knew there was a distributor change, but as far as I know it hadn't been announced yet. Sorry for your luck. It might be a good idea to try to wait it out.
 
Yes, the guy at Hanser was a bit surprised that I would have been able to find out that info. He said that nothing is official yet, and almost declined to say that. Eventually he went ahead and advised that they were probably going to take over as distributor.

try talking to a Canadian distributor before going to Euope, they might be cheaper. DBG should still help from here until January. try calling them again and try to speak to someone else. check out the luthiers sine they can heat the neck and repair it or get a new trussrod which will be way better than getting a new neck.

Sorry for not saying welcome on the first post since I did not see your signature. Hope you like the forums. they are addictive!! :wink: :lol:

If you need the neck in a hurry,email Warwick in Germany or if you can wait a couple months,the new US distributor will be able to assist you.

I guess these countries have no "authorized dealers" according to that page but they do have a distributor.... does that make sense? :?: :roll:
 
Sorry to hear about Dana B. Goods not being the USA distributor of Warwick anymore after the end of the year. They always gave great service.
