That there is a site/ company that make neck through (not BO or Set) temlates that you can make your own bass with. Any truth to this?

I was looking for a new project and this is it. however I am picky and would like a NT model bass, perferably contoured like a spector or warwick.

I know I should probably get alot of "just get a warwick or streamer" and I can respect that and take it, but if anyone knows where I can find it, it would be nice. Rather than going out and getting cool tone woods like bubinga or zebrano and trying to make a NT bass (plus I am in eastern canada, not sure if I could even find those). I don't even have all the tools such as making the knots that hold the 2 wings in place with the center bpdy/neck piece. SO any help is appreciated. Thanks fellow W freaks!

As for wood working tools.Look around your area for a wood workers co-op or,"men's shed".These are becoming more common nowdays as the population ages & retirees need things to keep them busy.This way,you can draw on the experience of others,while not having to outlay money on tools.Often timber suppliers,community outreach centres & hardware stores have info on these on their notice boards.

I actually know of a center where they promote this kind of stuff. AS for me, I'm off work now, I'll keep you posted for sure.
 
Warmoth is a good place to start. You can get a wide variety of body shapes and woods, and the same with necks... Plus you can get exactly the finish you want... It can get a little expensive once you get all the options down, but you get as custom a bass as it gets...
 
You can build your own bass and I've often thought about doing it but by the time you've bought the necessary parts, jigs etc it can often work out at the same amount as a secondhand Warwick.

Having a carved front and back also makes it more challenging. I can't remember Warmoth, Stewart McDonald or Allparts doing a ready shaped NT option either.

My advice is do the maths first and work out exactly what you're getting into, before going ahead and ordering stuff. You might find that you're happier to customise a secondhand bass rather than building a new one.

With the bass I'm building I just drew it out (to scale) and then got on with it.

As for tools you don't need a lot the original cutting i got done at my school by a wood work teacher but it can be done with a jigsaw at home. As far as the rest of it goes I have a sec of chisels (thats how i did pick-up cavity's ect.). I also have some files and rasps as well as 2 small clamps to hold it in place while shaping and two big clamps to glue the wings to the neck. You can get all of this stuff pretty cheap at a hardware store.

As far as building the bass goes its mainly common sense and taking the time to plan and think everything through.

I didn't do an angled body (like on Warwicks) for my first build but I was thinking about it for future builds although it would make shaping a bit harder. I have some ideas on how it could be done though.

I have no idea about templates but if you have any other questions I'll do my best to help. And hopefully some of the above is usefull in some way. :lol:
 
This company makes NT necks to order.

Check out the Vampyre style guitars they do while you're there.
This site's a good resource for eveything else.

Warmoth only does bolt-ons.

Carvin is one of the major companies that offers a neck-through.

Thanks guys, I have checked all of these out. I am still looking in to prices though. Will post pics if I ever actually do this.
