Some pics of "Chasing Amy" at the Huddstock Festival yesterday.







Lovely sunny day... 15 local bands on the main stage, plus more in the acoustic tent and dance tent... all for charity. Good time had by all!

Interesting story: the band before us... the bass player was panicking. Someone dropped his Musicman and it wouldn't stay in tune. I was the only other person with a bass available at that time... but he'd never played fretless before, but he had no choice but to go on stage with it. I thought I'd go round the front to hear how my Thumb sounded properly, and through a huge PA. The bass player was really good and played the fretless like he was born to it. But that tone... wowie :D What a bass!
I'd brought my microbass II pedal, but I didn't bother with it...

Wonder if we have a convert with the guy who borrowed my bass. Noticed he didn't alter the controls at all, just a bit of front pickup bias and flat eq!

If he is a fan of old school basses, he will be pretty hard to convert, but not impossible :-) Anyway I am shure he noticed how the thumb cuts through, it's the dream of every basist. That and a solo album.

That's a short-scale Thumb right? I've been playing around with the idea of getting a CS Vette fretless short-scale.

Oh my goodness...........

What a situation.................If I had to play fretless like that, I would certainly mess up big time............... :oops:
 
I first played fretless in an empty shop. You don't want to be trying it out in front of a couple of thousand people... He was up the neck a lot, where the intonation is more difficult, so did a great job really!

ALB... it's a 34" scale. Theories why it looks "short scale"

1) It looks short scale because I'm actually "long scale"

2) Foreshortening effect because I'm pointing the neck a bit forward

3) I tend to shove the body of the bass backwards a bit, my way of dealing with the famous Thumb "neckdive". I also like to have the neck in exactly the same position it would be in when I'm practising (sitting down) for the old "muscle-memory" etc :wink:

Hmmm .. as you mentioned earlier .. you might be my lookalike bro.. What's missing is the (silver)beard, the length, the cool stage-presence...

...and a thumb.. :? :D
 
I grew the beard after the "beard thread" we had on this forum a while ago... thought a goatee style would be more "rock". The cool stage presence is me thinking... "must not look gormless... must keep mouth closed". Also kept tossing my head back in true Rock-God fashion... that's because I kept getting a crick in my neck!

... and the Thumb speaks for itself! :wink:

...oops... falling into a stereotypical "Brits obsessed with the weather" scenario!

lol we have good reason.

rock at the lock took place over the whole bank holiday. it rained the day before us(day 1), rained just after we finished after our set (day2 ), and rained the next day too (day 3). looks like we were very lucky

i swear gigs on bank holiday mondays always have rain :wink:
 
... there's only one common factor, playing a Thumb BO gives you good weather for outdoor gigs! Nice one, Hans Peter! :wink:

Thanks, guys... think I've done the Huddstock pics now!

...shortscale... it's all relative... think I need to lose some weight!

... but in my defence, the Thumb is quite a small bass really... one of the reasons i like it (still reassuringly heavy, though... like me!)
