He's using an SS1 -- I know this for sure. Great sound. I love the growl he has. But he has a big slap part in the song and I want to know how he gets that... tone. It's like the bass is completely cut out... and something else. I'm not sure. I have the bandscore of the song so I see what he's playing -- just not how he's getting his tone.

  • Mebbe it's got the piezo option ..... heheheheheheheheheh :-)

Well, you're assuming he used the Streamer on the track and for both parts.

It's entirely possible that he used a different bass not to mention the production trickery that could have been used to pump up the slap part.

My guess is that it's predominantly production techniques along with either different bass config (pups, tone etc) or a different bass.

I recall on this forum someone mentioning that Stu Zender also used an Alembic on some tracks. Drummers will often have dozens of snares at a studio in order to pick the one that 'sits best' in the track....it's the same with bass.

While possible, I dont think he did. I'm more interested in the "production trickery". That tone is different enough that it isn't just another bass, there's some effect going on. IMHO at least.

He also uses the SS1 live.

doesn't seem that there is only one bass track there. sounds like an autowah of some sort or an envelope filter. It reminds me of a slap solo sound by Flea, just can't remember the name of the song.

That would be "Power of Equality".

Another Japanese band with a great sounding bass player, MUCC.
