How would this sound?

I just would love to hear and see what it would look like.

What would that combination sound like?

Wild guess:

I believe purple heart sounds in a way similar to bubinga, so that would mean, it's sort of equivalent to a maple neckthru with Bubinga wings and Wenge fretboard.................sounds similar like a Corvette NT, Bubinga version obviously.......(except for the pickups.......but ah well, that's my guess anyway.......)

Thats as good as a guess as mine. I just thought that it would look really good but was not sure about sound. I'm really used to my Thumb's growly mid and just its basic sound. I would say that I'm looking for a very growly tone but very smooth and has a great slap bass sound.

I think most of us play Warwick because of the amazing sound:

that's why in my opinion getting a CS bass with unusual woods is like playing Russian roulette: you have no idea how the exact sound will turn out to be....... And it's such a bummer if you don't like the sound......
However, in your particular case, I do think that the end result, soundwise, is a bit more predictable than some other, more exotic CS basses.......
In case you haven't checked already: www.bassplayer.tv has got some cool stuff about Warwick, including a demo of the Corvette NT Bubinga. You gotta go to NAMM 2007 and then click Warwick part 2...........

Yeah, I have watched the video and that corvette sounds great. I'm also thinking of just finding out what the other woods sound like and possibly a different combination of woods

Yeah, I really like (well who doesn't) Dirk Lance's sound but I also want a very big bassy sound with the highs and mids.

Would there be any other woods that would be better than what I'm looking for other than the Bubinga Pommele?

That is I think a very tough question:

I think midrange is the most difficult aspect of the soundspectrum of the bass guitar. It's also very personal what you think is good sounding, and what's not............ I have to go back to the point that I mentioned playing Russian roulette...........(hehe, another analogy for ordering a CS bass, particularly to hopefully get that sound you want: "imported wifes". :shock: )

:lol: Well I have hoped to gather enough info. on some of the woods I'm interested in. Do you or anyone else know of a site or some sort that has a description of the sound of each woods?

Hope this helps a bit. Please note, the SSI is a nechkthrough bass; the influence of the body wood will have (probably) less influence to the overall sound than when having a bolt on bass........

I want to be honest with you, nobody can tell you what a wood sound like, there are too many factors, and what you really want to know is "what a particular instrument made of this particular wood, sounds played by me"

So if you are crazy enaugh to do this (God knows I am) just go in a guitar center, and try all the basses you can, all the brands, all the price ranges. See wich one sounds right for you. Ask about the woods,
and notice the pickup position, the pickup type, and the scale lenght. Oh, and if the bass is bolt on, or Neck through, because they sound very different. (for example I prefere a BO, like Streamer LX for slap)

THen look what basic Warwick model has this features, then order a CS one with the wood configuration you like, the scale lenght you like, and SIMS LED's

absolutely mention worthy.......... My Yamaha bass has got an alder body, maple neck, and rosewood fretboard.............so does a Fender Jazzbass.........but I'm pretty sure hamsters can tell the difference between a Fender and a Yamaha bass !!! :lol:

Wait a minute,

the way Bubinga sounds ?? But you have a Thumb BO (only Thumb NT have Bubinga bodies)?? Unless it's a 2001 Limited Edition Thumb, your bass should have an Ovangkol body...... so you played another bass with Bubinga body ?? :?

There is a huge sound difference between the Infinity SN's and the Thumb BO's. Neither one can sound like the other no matter how hard I try to make them so I quit trying to and got a 2 channel amp. I'd say they're both unique to the same degree in that respect. I'd still personally like to hear an all ovangkol Infinity SN - that bass could probably get close to pulling off a Thumb-ish tone but still have the balance and visual impact of the Infinity series. ~M~

Yeah that would be an interesting looking and sounding bass.
