How to get a bright sound ?

Hello,

(at first, I'm french, so please excuse my english level)

I'd like to order a new warwick bass.
Actually, I've tried a few days ago, a Sadowsky NYC 5s with a powerfull and bright sound !

I already own 2 WW streamer stage I (1994 & 2000) with wenge fingerboard and even if the sound is powerfull, it's not that bright !!!

Do you think that by choosing a mapple fingerboard, It'd help me to get what I'm looking for ?

My Stage 1 seems to be bright... I think the best thing to do is to change the strings to some kind of steel string and also to boost the treble on your amp.

Maple ?? Oh yeah, that will give you brightness. But you can also go with Ebony. Try a bass with an Ebony board, like the Thumb NT (post 2003), or the 2004 Corvette Limited. Seriously bright stuff...... 8)

add some EMGs in it or Nordstrand and you can be sure that'll be bright.

Again. I have a Streamer Stage I and I have a Bright sound and I play with fingers. Very much a Steve Harris sound. It might be worth looking at strings and amp setting as said before

Especially in slapping !

I play on a Hartke 4x10 XL series cabinet with a 350w Hartke head (great compressor)

I think I'll odrer a streamer SS1 or 2 with a flat and broad mapple fingerboard....

Does anyone in this forum play on a mapple finger board WW ?

Why not get a Music Man or Fender US with a maple board? They're both great basses, but I prefer MM's.

MM.... no way, i have a chronic hate for MM, but if you like them go for it.

I would say order a cs ss1 with maple fretboard and maple body. if you really want some zing(probably overkill imho) go with a ebony fretboard.

I have a cs ss1 on order that has a wenge/maple neck and a maple fretboard with a 2a flame maple body. I wanted a crisp and bright growler....thus why I built mine with these specs.

agreed! That would be insane brightness. Not sure why you would really want something so bright. It would be hard to stiffle.

Man, imagine a Rickenbacker with a maple board. Completely maple bass with 2 single coils. That would be way too bright, and have zero bottom. After all it is supposed to be a bass.

well. if you wanted a good slap bass, i would say order a warwick bass (pick your favorite shape) but put a ash body, and maple neck and fingerboard on it.

yeah, that's what i would say, too:
ash body ! that gives enough bottom end, and there will also be growl if needed.

then, i would go with the maple neck, and ebony fingerboard.

that should be a good slap bass.
