How is the chrome tone finish done?

Sorry if this has been asked before, i am using an iPhone and things get a little tricky.


A couple things have prompted me to make this thread, firstly is my local guitar shop has a chrome tone that is catching my eye and secondly i am curious about how it actually done. I imagine it would be a tricky techique.

Ibanez had problems with guitars for Joe Satriani but seem to have perfected it.


Any info would be great thanks.
 
I think it's a top secret process that they wont go into detail over to protect their interests.
I remember Martin Sims did some chrometone style finishes in the past & he's a very friendly & helpful fella.But dont be surprised if he doesnt wanna give away any of his secrets either.

The thing is, there are several ways to do that. Each one has more or less problems, the major ones being the quality of the surface, or the durability. Some use stickers, others a plastic base finish, other chrome-based paint. We're glad we have a process that gives us both perfect surfaces and good wear resistance, I'm honestly sure we got the best technique in the industry for that. Seriously.

As far as the details... Our lacquering guy never gave them to me, despite my curiosity... He's secretive about the parts of his craft that he spent time developping...
