I want to know how to "slap" like this, i think that it is pretty efficient so i want to figure it out. Does anyone have an idea on how to do it?

As far as playing like him, place your hand flat on your desk.

Raise your index finger only, and slam it back down to the desk as hard as you can.

This is the form of attack he uses. This is also sort of how Martinie developed his attack.

It's tricky, and it takes buildup of strength in your fingers. I can do this form of attack with my index and middle fingers on both hands. I guess partially because I used to drum on everything, with everything as a little kid. When my drum sticks slash wooden spoons were taken away, I started using my fingers instead.

It can take some getting used to, and your fingers will get sore, but I believe this is the most effective way to achieve the attack with JUST your fingers.
 
well of course i'm familiar with the Ryan Martinie technique. I'll have to work on this in tomorrow. It seems like a cool thing to know.
 
kind of reminds me of entwhistle ... that slappy fingers or silly fingers or whatever he called it. He would play like that and moving his hand in different places up and down the strings he would achive a lot of additional harmonics in addition to the actual notes he was playing.
 
Didn't Jayen post on here a couple of times? If he's still a member you could PM him and ask. He called it percussive bass playing I believe. Seemed like a decent enough guy if he is who I'm thinking of.
 
PM jayen, he's pretty quick in replying and from my brief talks with him, hewas always happy to help, i'm sure he will point you in the right direction.
 
He clearly has a mute at the bottom of the neck. And from the amount of fret buzz I'm wondering how low the action is. I'm guessing it's pretty close to kissin' the frets.
