How dead or fresh do you like your strings?

Thumb bass - brand spanking new. Infinity - a little older as the bass is so bright anyway.
 
For me, a warwick must "Roar"....even in fingerstyle, not only with slap.

So when they sound like "flatwounds", i put my strings in boiling water and white vinegar. They come back like brand new. It works.
If i was rich i would buy a set every month but....

For a older style bass, it's different. I like the sound of a "worn" set.
 
Fresh strings for sure!
Whenever I change a set and play the 1st notes to settle them down I feel like a king!
Though changing sets per month
 
Rounds need about 10 hours to mellow a bit, then last about 100 hours before I consider cleaning them in a solvent. Flats need about 100 hours to even up, then they last until they break.
 
I have EMP's on most of my Wick's and they are getting close to a year old and sound awesome. I think they get better every day.
 
I like them broken in a bit. I think my Dean Markley NPS Blue Steel Nickles sound best after 2or 3 weeks. They stay that way for a few months too. I only change them when they start to feel flabby and sound dull. Fresh they are quite aggressive and zingy.
 
I used to hate brand new strings. Now I like them. Circle K strings, balanced tension, amazing. They sound like they've been played for a week when you put them on, and they sound that way for months and months. I had a set on for just under a year. They are a small company, but they are very affordable. Playing a set of strings with an even tension across the fretboard is a wonderful thing.

i love them 1 day after i put them, after the zing is almost gone too, i've always been using D'addario Nickel because they are always available where i am, but i tried GHS boomer and i liked, also the black label warwicks that came with the corvette are cool, i'm trying to find them and try them again :)
 
I like new strings, and very hi-fi sounding ones at that. If I have a lot of gigs lined up, I'll change them about very two-three weeks or so (which amounts to around 20+ shows). Otherwise, they are changed every couple of months in slower times.
 
To be honest I like them to be broken in for a while, usually after 2 weeks of playing daily. I do love the crisp, punchy, bright sound that a pair of new strings bring, but they can be harsh on your fingers if you don't use a pick!
