High Pitched Ringing

Whenever I pickup my bass and plugin
there is a really high pitched ring. If
i turn the volume off of the bass the
ring goes away. It only happens when
i'm not touching any metal on the bass
(strings, pups, bridge)
But If I touch any of those the ringing stops.
Does anyone know how I can fix this?
 
grounding most likely. Is it your $$? if so is there a change when selecting different coils, or switching from single to series/parallel?
 
Certainly sounds like a grounding issue.

I reiterate Callum's question - does it happen in all modes of the $$ - or only certain modes?
 
all of them, some are fainter then others, but they are still there. I'm going to change the battery tomorrow to see if that might fix it.
 
i used to have this problem on my Yamaha RBX 170... maybe because the pickups are passive? i dont know
 
Kyle, this can show other problems, like a not so good cable, or a bad electric network...
The fact that the noise is going away when you touch the strings it shows that the grounding is working.
You might check the shiealding though.
So all the electronics cavity must be covered with graphite spray. The cover too. And the cover should be in contact with the cavity, with a small piece of copper. Check if it actually is a contact there.
 
The copper is on the inside of the cavity not the cover. Is that what you mean

Its a new mogami cable its good, the problem is just recent, i still have the problem with multiple cables

The electricity is fine
 
The copper thingy is on the frame, But check if it is making contact with the shielding on both parts.
 
So that the copper strip contacts the cavity cover (which has no copper strip)

Yah that is making contact
 
and that area has graphite on it... Also that the copper is touching the graphite in the cavity too...
 
I still think it's an shielding/ grounding issue, if any.
Maybe you find an electronics friend to help...
