Maybe the little brass dooflotchkies under the PU came
outa the wood and need to be glued. Having yur PU all
floppy loose is gonna mess your output level across the
the string set. Replace the jack with a top shelf item
[in the US we choose Switchcraft] cuz the difference
in price of jacks, from best to worst, is less than a cup
of coffee. And, what Flo said ! I sometimes go for a
2-band mid boost by turning down both the hi and low
bands: Low band less than 1/8 turn off center, hi band
almost down to minimum.
As to not playing all 4 coils, I spoze Flo meant not to
run all 4 with the fader near center. Thaz good advice.
But, no harm in using 4 coils if one pair is dominant in
the blend, frinstintz dial the fader all the way back to
the bridge, like a StingRay, but then add just a bit of
neck PU, maybe about an 80/20 mix favoring bridge PU.
This pfattens up the tone. You can play with the neck
PU toggle to see what flavor you want for the 20%. It
might drop to only 10% at single coil so you may hafta
add a bit more, neckwise, at the fader to get the FNA
JazzMan voice.
There's lotsa good mix ratios, even 50/50 is unmuddy,
for the JazzMan 3-coil voice, but as Flo warned, 4 coils
at full house can get muddy. Thaz the problem with the
"$$" version of the StingRay [EBMM call is the "HH"] cuz
Rays got NO fader dammit ! Thaz why with MM I prefer
the JazzMan config [EBMM calls it "HS"] cuz then the
"full house" setting on the selector switch is only 3 coils.
The MM "HH" has NO 3-coil or single coil selections, and
it's full house 4-coil setting is semi-useless. So, we are
fortunate that $$ Wicks have separate coils switches
plus that PU fader knob.
