how do you like you're $$ with kahler? does it stay in tune?

and evolve, whats the main difference between your normal $$ and your nt? sound clips would be nice too (with all series, parallel, and single coil).

The Kahler stays in very good tune because it's a 6-string base unit, with 3-springs, but set up for a 5-string. 5-string Kahlers only have 2-springs, so there's not enough tension to return the strings to pitch. The $$'s wide MM humbuckers balance nicely with the 6-string wide unit, so it works well on a $$, but might look too clunky on any other 5-string. 4-strings do fine with a 4-string/2-spring unit, but 5-strings really need the third spring. It is a stiffer feel, but worth the tuning stability, and I use mine more for expression than for dive-bombing. Plus, it just looks plain MEAN! :twisted:

You can order from www.wammiworld.com - the owner, J called me on my cell phone and asked if I wanted the "wide version" (or something like that) of the 5-string unit. When I asked what he meant, he explained the whole 3-spring necessity to me. Very cool and accessable guy!

Yeah, I just took a look at it. Black Kahler on the $$ NT looks great and since you're going for a 4-string, you should have no tuning issues with the 4-string/-spring Kahler. Custom Shop is definitely the way to go for the best install.

Well, if you consider that the only physical differences are the body and neck woods and how they are joined, they obviously play very similar. But tonally they are fairly different. The BO, ash and ovangkol, has really deep lows and crisp highs - but lacks a bit for mids. The NT, bubinga and maple, has far more transparent lows and good highs - but has considerably better low mids/mids.

Both are plenty aggressive and punchy thanks to those humbuckers, but the NT has far better note clarity and presence in a mix with distorted guitars, and a more rounded overall tone. Hope that helps...
