Help :(

Hey guys

I am having this problem with my thumb bass. I Noticed it about a month ago whenever i do a hammer on say from a C to a D on the G string my string will roll off of the fret board right where the the edge of the fret is.(depending on how fast i hit the hammer-on) and makes this horrible sound. Now i know what you guys are gonna say... about the adjustable string spacing but i tried that and it didnt work . Any suggestions would be nice.

mate I was doing the same thing while recovering from a hand injury,i wasnt pushing the string straight down,I was bending it slightly & thats all it takes to roll a G string off the fingerboard.My hand got better & now it only happens when my little bloke wants a piggy back while I'm playing.
When you do hammer-ons you might be bending as you release the string.I tend to do that when I attempt to do some tapping,the emphesis being "attempt".

thanks, EBS takes the cake when it comes to amp's. Ill never buy a Ampeg or Mesa Boogie again. They dont get much play here in the States. Every one is about Ampeg (boo), GK or SWR here.

OMG I get so many compliments along with "i have never heard of a Fafner "amp". But, i like it" I have to show them thats an EBS amp the symbol is so small compared to how big Fafner is written on it. Best amp i have ever owned. It sounds so sexy through my Aguilar 4x12 cab.

As for my problem i messed around and think that youre right. I think it has to do with the radious of the neck and where i keep my thumb in releation to where my fingers are playing. I think i am going to have to exeperiment.

Fix your techinique, and if you combine it with the adjustable string spacing that you've already mentioned, it will be even easier. Not much else you can do... good luck.

My good buddy Mats is an EBS man,I just got their catalogue seeing as the aussie Warwick distributor is also the EBS distributor.They found me my thumb 5 only a 10 minute drive from my home,the same day.When I get my Warwick amp & cabs I'll be using EBS pedals,pre-amp & I'd love to try some of those strings Mats mentioned but my catalogue only has the Northern Light strings.Where there's a will,... :wink:

Exactly...

My suggestion is to spend some time practising "acoustically" - then you can hear any farty sprangy noises better and tighten up your technique - also very good for fretless playing... nothing exposes your dodgy intonation better!

I had a similar problem when I bought my bass! I took the bass to my tech and it turned out that tne neck wasnt centered so when i played on some positons on the g string8below 12th fret) the string would roll of the fretboard. It took only 5 minutes of adjusting the neck.
