Help! Which is this Warwick?

Hey, I need some help from all you experts out there. I'm in the market for a new Corvette Standard but I've spotted a second hand Streamer and I need to know which model it is. Don't have any photos, sorry.

It's a 4 string, neck-thru, natural flame maple with P/J pickups, gold hardware and has a front and back four skunk stripe going on. From that and the photos on the Warwick site and here I suspect it's a Streamer Stage 1.

What puzzles me is that it doesn't say Stage 1 on the headstock, only Streamer, and it has a seperate battery compartment which most of your photos don't show. Also there doesn't appear to be a serial number on the back of the headstock.

Does this make it the real deal, but an early model, or should I be suspicious? Asking price is £649 so about the same as the new Corvette and it looks used but in very good condition.

So........what do you think? Good deal? A better investment of my money? Need to use your experience here.
 
By the description, it sounds pretty much like an old-school Streamer Stage I. They used to have that separate battery compartment on the back. At that point Warwick used to put the serial number on top of the headstock. I think it would be very rare to find imitations of Warwick basses that have the Warwick logo.

Thanks, Oliver. Actually that helps quite a lot. It looks genuine and I can check out the top for the serial number no problem. I don't think anyone would go to that much effort for a fake, it's a beauty. And the body contour fits my beer gut like a glove!

One more thing, when you say, "old school Streamer Stage I", can you put some dates on that? And does the price sound right? Ok, that's two more things.

So, new corvette or used Streamer I? Decisions, decisions....any opinions?

It sounds to be a Streamer Stage 1....I would say it was built in the late 80's.
I seen a few on E-bay that sold for around $1400.00- $1600.00, so at that price it seems like a good price. I think that ( £649 ) converts to about $1139.00 US.

Thanks Rob. So it seems like it's good value once I've examined it closely to check it's ok. Then as long as I'm sure I'm not being ripped off it comes down to sound and playability, the important stuff.

Obviously I'll try it out, I used to have a Streamer Std passive but this seems to be in a different league just by holding it and playing acoustically. Anyone owned these two and can suggest what the subjective (not spec) differences are between a Corvette Std and a Streamer Stage I? I know a big factor will be my own personal feel for them but I'm genuinely interested in other people's experiences and opinions. We all know bass players are trustworthy and reliable, right? :D

Really appreciate the help, there some cool people on this forum.

An old Streamer Stage I which this IS is very cheap if it only costs £ 649..

GO for that bass instead of a new Corvette.

And don't you dare to forget to put some pictures of it here. :lol:
 
Hi Colin,

Well...I own 4 Streamer's (not a Stage 1), and I love them.
I'm a big fan of bolt-ons that why I choose to go with the LX's and the Jazzman. The contour of the body fits me the best out of all of the Warwick basses I have had or played.
At one point I did own 2 Corvette's but I couldn't get comfortable with them....The Streamer just "Melts" into you, and the balance is amazing.

The only thing I plan on changing on the LX's is the Preamp...I going with Aguilar OBP-2's for all of them. ( or maybe even a Sadowsky pre...I think it would sound great).

Even though I've been playing for more years than I care to remember I feel like a beginner compared to you guys. Look at the lists of what you own!! Although now come to think of it, I do currently have two basses, three electrics, an acoustic, a synth and two digital portastudios, so I can't complain too much. Ain't playing just the best? The lists on this forum must say something about Warwick, I wonder how many other manufacturers can claim such brand loyalty.

I'm now even more excited about what I now know is a Streamer Stage I than I was when I first saw it a few days ago.....and I think I can talk down the price. Anyone advising the Corvette?
