Help on Pickup position with CS

Hey,
I'm trying to decide what pick up configuration to go for on a CS bass I'm going to order.

Details;
Corvette body in Zebrano
Fretless lined neck - the usual ebony on Ovangkol
Black hardware

Now i like active MEC's but I'm looking at either JJ in the Thumb position or J/TJ like the in the Vampyre.

What do people think of these two options?
I have a thumb, so i know what to expect from that configuration.

There are no basses around here with the T/J pickups for me to try.
So how does the TJ on the bridge sound?
On the TJ can you switch between the two coils?
Is the neck pickup position on the T/J about the same as a thumb?

Hi Sigmund and welcome to the Forum! I can think of two ways I might go with this project - one for a stage bass and one for a studio bass. Either way I'd use a pair of TJ's spaced like the Katana NT's Jazz pickups (far apart). TJ's do split, usually with a push/pull pot. The CS should also be able to offer more complicated options for those pickups, so you might ask them about it. Definitely look at a 3 band preamp with selectable mid frequencies for a Zebrano body. I've had three basses with the J/TJ setup and my experience has been that they aren't the greatest for nailing the Thumb sound, but they can do damn near anything else. Cheers! ~M~

I don't like the sound of pickups really close the neck.
And i also like heaps of room for slapping, hence the thumb pick up idea.
A TJ could be good, three way switch (mid/bridge/both) :D
 
I love the way JJ/ thumb position sounds for fretless. If you like the way your thumb sounds go for it. The TJ/J configuration is ok, but is more on the "modern" "synthetic" "punchy" side.
I prefer JJ sound more that anything.
 
with the J/TJ you should be able to get more deep bassy tones while the JJ thumb style should give a really focused sound what ever you do with the preamp...
