Hi all, I just purchased my first Warwick (Std. Corvette) and have a few quick questions.

1) The bass I bought from GC is active, and the serial number on the bass is different than the toolkit's they gave me (says it's passive).

2) How can I tell what finish I have on my bass and if I need to wax it? The kit says it is burgungy red, but I'm sure it is lighter than that. It doesn't seem like there is any coating, and I know the body is ash. Looking at the website, I would guess antique tobacco.

3)Is there anywhere I could plug in the serial numbers on my bass and get the info on it?

Thanks for your help, I love the way my bass looks and sounds. The growl and tone is great for everything, but I just want to make sure I am taking proper care of it. :D
 
hey welcome

it souns as if someone has mixed someting up along the way i'd be asking GC about it if i were you,

unless your bass is completely natuaral ie. no finsih at all, you don't need to wax the body, waxing the neck is optional and everyone on here has there own opinion about it, personally i do as well as headstock
 
Hi JPFan and welcome to the forum.

First, you should have a leather 'dog tag' with your bass which gives all it's details. If you don't have this then a quick check for the 'naturalness' is to look at the colour difference from the finish to the untouched wood around the neck bolts. If the colour difference is slight it is a 'natural' and needs to be waxed.

The oil stained finishes don't need waxing
 
looking at my bass, I don't really see any difference in the color around the neck bolts. I stopped by GC and the sales guy told me just to wipe my bass w/ a microfiber cloth. Sound right to you guys?
 
If your bass has an Antique Tobacco finish, there's no need to wax it, as the colored finished has already sealed the wood. Wiping off to get the dust off from time to time would be a good idea. About your serial number, your bass should have included a tag that has all the specs on it besides the toolkit.
 
Ok, looking at all my stuff, I have sticker tags that match the toolkit (Swamp Ash, Passive, Burgundy Red). My store receipt says bubinga & active. I'm thinking the store receipt is correct. Maybe pictures would help :lol:
 
Yes please send us the pictures. A natural finish bass (bubinga) would require a wax treatment.

Burgundy Red Swamp Ash and Bubinga should look nothing alike. A pic will really help...

Jay, we seem to have the same vette body. I'd assume no treatment needed and I refer to the right bass in the picture below.

Yes. That is a natural finish Corvette bass. You need to wax it. Instructions for waxing are included in the User's Manual, which you can download from our website www.warwick.de if you don't have a hard-copy.
