had a band audition tonight

holy crap. My GK Amp, Eden cabs and Thumb 5 BO friggin TORE through the mix. Every riff they showed me and had me play, they would stop and comment on how tight the sound was. That certainly makes me feel good This was also my first time getting to use my full rig in a setting that wasnt my basement, lol, so I was sort of surprised too. I cant believe how killer it sounded.

And I think I got the job, too! They asked me to come back tuesday, gave me their practice schedule for the next month and told me that they need me to work on 5 more of their songs because of a gig coming up in a month. YAY me!


Sorry, had to gloat a bit and I know you guys would appreciate a killer sounding setup

Great stuff, BA2... I love reading stuff like that. I had a similar experience just after I got my $$. If bands are used to passive p-basses, it can be a bit of surprise. Knock 'em dead!

Yeah.. When I first set the B-string in motion (with my warwick 800 amp and 4x10'' + 1x15'') the rest of the band gazed really hard and just said "wow"..
That's warwick for you..

And that's the reason why I'm always standing grinning like a maniac hitting that B... Is there anything better than your own personal earthquake??

kind of like an evanescence meets dream theater. The songs sound way heavier when we played. My audition song was Emotionless, which had some realy fast 16ths in it, my fingers hurt, lol.

so, I decided to not pursue plying with the group anymore. They were really looking for a serious dedication t o it becase they eventually wnt to make it big and I want a group to just rock ot with and play some bars maybe.

I dont see myself quitting my current career job to pursue music, and they do, so I decided I was a bad fit. I felt bad immediately afterwards, lke I had left them down because they were excited to have me gain, but ehhhh, I cant go in there lying to them about commitment.

Ambition and commitment needs to be on the same level among the band members, being it "rockstar" or "1 gig/year amarure". That's when the fun kicks in.

I've done the same thing. At the audition they handed over a pile of notes and said that the band needs to be economically profitable after paying rehearsal room rent, demo recordings, transport to gigs hotel room etc. I answered "I don't read notes" and left as it was an ambition level mismatch.

You don't have to feel bad for deciding not to go in a musical direction that you don't want to go.

Your quite right, this was simply a mismatch of desired goals.

Just look at it as an experience that will make you appreciate the right match just that much more when you find it.

I guess this would kind of be like musical dating then; nice band, but not the one you want to take home to Mom :lol:

I think all my band-related woes have arisen from an "ambition level mismatch"... LOL.

Been at both extremes... and I just want something in the middle! :wink:
