Hey guys,

I know I have sweaty hands, and they get even sweatier when I pick up a hot looking instrument, but I wipe the strings off after I play, and after a few weeks I end up getting discolored spots and "gunky" sections on the strings.

Is there a string cleaner I can use when they are still on the bass?
 
Iuse some fast fret before and after i play if i know im giong to to getting sweaty.

just me?
 
If you just wipe the bass down after you play it will help to prevent this problem. New warwicks normally have a handy cloth to do this.

That or get a swipe card cleaning kit which i got on better with as i really disliked the fast fret feel.
 
I wash my hands (almost) every time I play my bass, and the six month old EMPs on my fretted 'Vette still look and sound like new.

The TI Jazz flats on my fretless will be on it for years. About the only reason I'd change them is if I wanted to try a different string.

I also use EMPs exclusively. I do wash my hands before I play my instrument and use Fast Fret to liven them up from time to time and allow me to slide on them up and down easily.

From time to time I use those moistened towelettes with isopropyl alcohol to eliminate the extra gunk. that works wonders. :wink:
 
Thought i would ask while you guys are talking about it.
Ive been playing GHS Boomer cause they have a light set that meets my needs and they arent too expensive. Thing is though i end up with black gunk on my hands. Not a lot but nevertheless GUNK. And it smells odd too.

Anyone ever experience this with GHS strings or any strings for that matter?

I recently had a bass trade that came with Boomers and yes those things leave blkack marks on your hand.
I used alcohol towelettes to wipe them down and did better. I replaced them anyways since they do not sound as nice as EMPs.
