pics to follow shortly.

haha im 16 and I hurt all over after shows so dont feel bad! Its normal! haha

I'm turning 45 this year and I'm still rocking like I was 25 years ago when I started playing bass! 8)

Getting old? That's complete & utter crap.
Ya gotta expect to be a bit sore after your first gig in a long while mate.
Age is a state of mind.If you feel old, you'll be old.
Young man's game my arse. :)

Heh! heh!
You tell 'em, Greg!

Now I'm old, sick, and hadn't played for over 2 years and ended up playing a couple gigs in a local bar with no stage, so we were setup right on the concrete floor. Like an idiot (couldn't help myself) When the music started, I rocked out like I always do. I can't just stand there when I play, I have to move. I dance all over the place. After the first gig back, I hurt all over and spent the next three days in bed praying for it all to end and to be put out of my misery. After the second gig, I still hurt but only spent two days in bed.

Although I was in real pain, and was wishing I was dead, I have to say, I had a blast. I had so much fun, that if I would have died, at least I would have died happy!

I agree with Greg though. If you haven't giged in a while, of coarse you're gonna be sore. It's just like, if you haven't played in a while, of coarse your fingers are going to be sore.

Is rock-n-roll only for the young... Hell No! Just look at Keith Richards, he's been dead for the past twenty years, and he's still rockin.

LOL

Well I guess its my job that makes me old. driving a truck all day and not moving around alot. so when I cut loose I pay the price. I'm also 45. we only jam every two weeks and only play out in a club every few months.
I remember getting sore when I was young but was over it by the next night. now it takes 3 days,

No problem here, so far. I no longer swap the floor with my hair while playing, but I still move (lightly) with the groove. Even the fact that my brown hair is every day less brown (and every day less hair) doesn't bother me at all. I'm a little more worried about my health... but not really doing anything about it.

I am also starting to see the effects of aging and a couple of weeks ago the drummer asked me to help out and now I have to warm up and stretch before playing (I did not do it that time and yeah... big cramps on my forearm on my right arm which is the one I use to play the Hi-Hats, I had to suck it up and live with it for a couple of hours).

I love the weight of my Warwicks when I play. makes me feel like I am anchored onto the floor and since these things vibrate when played I love the feeling of my gut vibrating and making my bones rattle when I play them.

I also started to see some health problems and I ignored them for a while but now I am taking the meds I am supposed to (cholesterol meds) since I have 1 daughter and I want to be present on her wedding date (I tried the diet alone and did not work so I am doing meds now and doing excellent)

Simple cure guys and it doesnt require pills. Take 5 mins out of your day and do some pull ups,sit ups, squats and a few lunges. Makes a huge difference in how you feel. Hate to sound like the commercials on TV but I'm 49 and am In better shape now than 20 years ago.

That would probably put me back in the hospital, and twice in 1 year is my limit.

I also think that it wouldn't be so bad if we could remove the roadie part of playing out. thats maybe 65-75% of where the soreness comes from.
having to break it down at the jam room,
move it to the club, set it up again,
play till you have nothing left,
break it down again, move it back to the jam room,
set it up again.

I'm not just talking about the bass rig, but the whole band stage rig.
at best, most times we play out we can only find one and sometimes two people to help us. alot of time theres no one,,,, some clubs also have the oddest lay out where you have to move everything on the longest path to the stage,,, the place we played friday night was cool. back door right to the stage. it was a great night, lots of fun.. we only got a 30 minute set as the opener. for those interested here was our set list.

What you say--Scrape
Holy Diver--Killswitch engauged
Not Falling--Mudvayne
Cowboys from Hell--Pantera
Shortest Straw--Metallica
Psychosocial--Slipnot

it was hard, fast, and to the point!!!!!!!!!!!!

S'funny...I thought this thread was going to be about getting oral sex from pensioners.

sounds like a sick set, did you have a pit?

Wait a minute..... gonzosc1, your saying you're sore from a 30 minute gig? Wow, and I thought I was old... hahaha   Love the set list tho.

Heck, I was thinking I was a weenie because I was sore after playing 5 hours + packing in, setting up and packing out. I think what really got me was the concrete floor. True, I am out of shape, but 5 hours standing on that concrete floor, my feet, legs and lower back was killing me.

Roadies... Roadies are always nice. I haven't had a roadie in years, but back in the day, I used to almost always have a personal roadie responsible for setting up my equipment. The way I managed this was I would have a couple students that I would exchange lessons for their services as a Roadie. Worked out pretty cool and really helped with the whole feeling like a rock star thing

Girlfriends can some times come in handy as roadies too, but you can't let them get away with any crap. When she starts complaining about not being able to lift your 100+ pound bass cab, be supportive, just say... "Yeah you can babe, I have faith in you! Now lift with your legs, b*tch". Just remember, especially if you used that last line I just told you about, Don't ever let b*tch carry your bass!

Oh Too Be Young Again....
