Brief White Paper Expounding on
a Theory of Bass Klutz Dynamics:

I'm left handed but my basses are not, so
I tend to play like a toadall klutz

Acoarst I'm royally philosophical about it.
And shunning frets usually renders some
degree of "artistry" to the effect ....

Tried a few compressors. Bah ! Humbug !

But, seriously [really], fretlessness seems
to narrow the audible dynamics compared
the same klutzy style played on frets. And
acoarst I do have matching FL and fretted
axen by which to more or less confirm my
unscientific theory of bass klutz dynamics.

Love dynamics and how well my thumb responds to different techniques...really opened up my playing style...i mainly enjoy digging in very hard nearer the bridge on stainless strings gets a very cutting slap like tone with more control IMO. I also love to play softer or more bass driven sound closer to the neck with softer fingers. Generally a middle ground sees most of my playing.

Jon Stockton is the master of the very aggressive finger style have a look at a few playthroughs of his. I'm his warwick love it lol.

Good music is chock full of dynamics. That's probably what ultimately keeps it interesting to our ears. A good bassist is, likewise, chock full of dynamics. Sometimes a gentle breeze of fingers, at the bottom of the fretboard, but above the neck pickup is all that takes; other times, there is nothing quite as satisfying as digging into the bridge pickup. Picking dynamics, especially with fingers, are much like a gas pedal....you don't want to romp it all the time.

You have to 'feel' what is right and then play what you feel.
