Well as many of you know i fell in love with fretless SS1s so this is an idea i've got for a CS fretless

Corvette BO fretless 5-string
Flame maple body
One piece wenge neck
Unmarked tigrestripe ebony fingerboard
2X passive bart j pickups
passive bart electronics
black or gold hardware

Dunlop strap locks
Natural oil finish

how much do you reakon this will cost? (dont say it depends on the dealer/country, I know :wink: , i just want a really rough estimate)

Do bart do a passive electronics package that offers a V V T T setup? or do you not need to specify a maker for passive electronics as it is just a few pots, potentiometers and wires, not really a circuit board (as far as i know)

...For Mr Rabble. Do bartolini do passive j style pickups that are "true single coils"?

Usually Bartolini pickups have a Ceramic bar inside.

The 9CBJS model for example is claimed to be an epoxied single coil.
These Classic Bass pickups sound great, and they are very vintage-y sounding, plenty of midrange with rounded highs.
Maybe less dirty than AlNiCo V, exposed poles single coils, but growly as hell!

Idea for you:

Don't do One Piece necks. They are not as stable as laminated necks.

i love my thumbs one piece wenge neck. why did warwick use do this for BOs if they arnt very stable?

Without opening them it's hard to say, but they're epoxied so it ain't possible :lol:
Sure they sound great, and I don't think that a respected pickup manufacturer like Bartolini could ever lie about it!

btw I agree with Ollie on the neck; infact the classic Wengé neck was 3 pieces for 4 string basses.
You need a real baseball bat to made a one piece stable neck (the Precision '57 for example)

And about your question nr. 3:
Passive electronics are just pots, wires and capacitors. :wink:
The V V T T setup of the very early Jazz Basses can be made with 2 stacked knobs and two capacitors, or also with 4 separate knobs (think about a Gibson guitar) and 4 capacitors

i feel very stupid now. its fourpiece but there are no laminates so i never really noticed. i must never have looked very closly.

Yes, we do it all the time. On my CS I have 3 HUGE pieces of Wenge and 2 smaller ones of Maple and it sounds amazing. We laminate ALL necks. Even if they are made out of a single wood.

I know you're a pro, but I got a godin bass with a one piece birdseye maple neck, it's really slim and I never had to adjust the truss rod in 4 years of using it, I said never. So, from my experience, one piece neck CAN be very stable.

I also have a Godin A5 fretless with a one piece birdseye maple neck. It just doesn't feel like like my other basses.

Cost-wise, you're looking at something around 2000 euros, depening on the amount of flame you want in that maple (theres as much as 500 euros in difference between A and AAAAA...)

Matching headstock is roughly 200 euros,
A piezo system is roughly 500 euros, and it does need to go through an active pre-amp...
As for the LEDs you'll have to go through warwick, I don't know the prices of the new MEC LEDSs...

LEDs tend to up the cost a lot. At least it's awesome that they are not a must have in terms of sound.

Patrick, the new LEDs are not done by MEC. They are done in-house by a partner company that assembles the amplifiers called HDB, just a few minutes from Warwick. They are really good.

I was indeed under the wrong impression that the new LEDs were made and installed in-house by MEC.

The main point to keep in mind though, is that they are in the end cheaper than the SIMS LEDs, in part because SIMS have to be installed at the SIMS facility in the UK, so basses have to be shipped from Germany to the UK and Back for the installation...

I wonder how much it would cost, with the new LEDs, to only have the headstock "W" light up in blue...?
