i'm in deperate need of a functional, decent sounding guitar. i've played for fun and recording purposes, but the ones i have are very limited, and are giving out. i really want this one

any thoughts? these manage to get good reviews. i play jazz and lots of solo stuff (al di meola is a huge influence). best of all, its cheap!
 
Well, that probably would be very limiting to use in a jazz setting... Looks to be a guitar made for metal. 2 hot humbuckers...
 
i guess your definition on jazz varies. cause vai uses a ibanez, and he's done some jazz work with it.
 
Thats interesting, I've never heard anything remotly jazzy from Vai, got a youtube or something? It could be cool.
 
once again, depends on your definition of jazz (art metal is jazz). he did race the devil on a spanish highway with al di meola, it was pretty awesome because they got into a guitar duel.
 
For future referance: never refer to art metal as jazz.. I won't be the only person confused. Just call it art metal. It would have prevented this whole thing.
 
I'd go with a Fender Squire before that Rondo. They're just as cheap but probably built better. The Fender seems to be a very well rounded instrument and would be able to "fit" any musical style you might choose to play. Just my.02.... Good luck with your search.
 
As for my 2 cents... I would probably save up a little more to but something like a mex fender or a nice epiphone. they are popular for a reason, and you get more quality for the buck.

Woah! I missed that one. I love "Race With The Devil On Spanish Highway" by Al Dimeola, as he was one of my favorites when I used to be a twanger. A dual with Via would be awesome to hear. Where is this song - is it on any album, or is it on YouTube?

I gotta look into this and check it out! 8)
 
To answer my own question, I found an album by Al Dimeola titled: 'The Infinite Desire' and it features Dimeola with Steve Vai on the song "Race With The Devil On Turkish Highway" which is a follow-up to the original "Spanish Highway" version from 1977's 'Elegant Gypsy' album.

Got another album to order now...

thats what i was talking about.i think i may just order this guitar just for grins this summers, anywase, i don't beleive ill save up for a nice guitar cause i have to get the katana this year!
 
mahogany body and humbuckers? You sure can play jazz with that. Deep tone, not bright at all, kinda well suited for jazz to me.
 
they make some cheap ($125 USD) basses that are actually very good given the price. i'd imagine the guitars would be no different.
 
I'd look into Epiphone also, you can get a few in that range, and some good gear for a little more. My 2 Epi's (a 2000 T-bird and LP Classic) are great instruments.

Hi,
cheap guitars can be pretty good, but you better avoid one with a floyd rose. Cheap floyd rose systems are a plague - they will give you a hard time staying in tune. Better look for something with a fixed bridge, trust me.
For cheaper Guitars, I'd stick with Yamaha or Ibanez/Cort.

ive been hugly impressed with shine guitars. i was given one by a music shop and its fantastic. think its been discontinued though. shine guitars are definatly worth checking out though

shine guitars are not avaible in the U.S., and its the same as rondomusic.
 
Ya never know when you're going to find something great that don't break the bank mate. It looks fine, if the trem won't stay in tune, easy solution, don't use it, with a fixed bridge you don't have the option at all. I got a use Kramer XL2 for 200 CDN, used, but you'd never know it, still had the clear plastic over the electronics cover. Great axe that. I don't use the whammy.
