FNA Jazzman volume knob issue...I think?

Hello everyone,

I have spent a few hours trawling through the posts and searching this forum to try and solve this issue, but cannot find a solution. I apologise in advance if this is an obvious issue that I am missing, or couldn't find the corresponding post.

Issue:
I have a 5 string FNA Jazzman with MEC electronics and Seymour Duncan pick ups. Until recently it sounded amazing, seriously the best tone I have ever experienced in the flesh. But, that has all changed...

I have an intermitant issue with it now. I get a top end flutter, almost like the 'squelch' sound you get with wireless units as they attempt to filter out interference. This results in a crappy tone with no bottom end...no too good for a bass guitar in my opinion. This can be rectified by applying pressure to the volume/balance knob (M 89552). However, that really is no solution at all.

The reason I am a little berwildered is that mostly it clears up after a while...as if the bloody thing needs to warm up! However, when the balance knob is turned all the way to the right (from player's perspective - so selecting the bridge humbucker as I understand it) The noise is always present. And when turned all the way to the left (selecting the neck pick up only) it is far cleaner, with only the occaisional flutter.

Secondly: I am considering ordering the part from MEC and replacing it. Has anybody done this before, and is it as simple as it appears to be.

The pick ups are unnaffected as the bass sounds fine, if a little quiet, when the active circuit is dissengaged. And it is definately not a battery issue, as I have replaced the battery a few times now in trouble shooting.

Again, my apologies if this was an easy to find previously posted issue, that illuded me.

Hi again Amos,

Well, it seems that the pot is the problem. Please check the back of the pot, maybe it is deformed, and you need to kick it to make it straight
Sometimes it happens.

If you need to replace it, be sure you buy a pot with the circuit board attached (I don't find one in W shop) Removing the existing board is pretty difficult. If you buy one with the circuit board attached, you can replace it by yourself. If not, take it to a guy that knows how to use a solderer in a professional way

Sorry I messaged you after I posted, having seen your comments in other threads. I'll try and pop the plate back as suggested, as it is indeed slightly deformed. Roadies hey! But will source a replcement too.

Thank you the advice on the circuit board. Now to fix my Thumb BO BN...needs a new jack input...about time though, it's 8 years old now and has been gigged hard!
