FLATS OR ROUNDS?

I PLAY A VETTE BASIC WITH WARWICK ROUNDS. THIS IS THE FIRST BASS THAT I HAVE PLAYED WITHOUT REPLACING THE STRINGS WITH FLATS. THE FLATS ALWAYS GAVE ME A LESS TWANGY, SMOOTH SOUND WITH ALL OF THE LOW END BOOM THAT I NEEDED AND ALSO WERE MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE ON THE FINGERS. DO ANY OF YOU PLAY WITH FLATS???? COMMENTS PLEASE!!!!

I only play flats on my godin fretless (which I don't really use). I even use rounds for my Stage II Fretless.
 
I use flats on my fretless. It has a smooth feel and the piezo compensates for the twang
 
I play fretless all the time, and use flats - usually d'addario chromes. I just seem to have evolved a style that uses no frets and slidey strings - works for me... and sounds great.

I'm prone to arthritis in my fingers, so playing a fretted p-bass fitted with cables just doesn't work... tried it!
 
Flats vs Rounds

I play Flats on my Fretted Bass simply because I squeak too much playing on Rounds. I slide alot to the next note and flats allow you to do that. The down side to flats is Slapping. Rounds sound much better. Looking for the best of both worlds I tried GHS Brite Flats (half rounds) and I love them.

I've played flats on my old fretless for a few months then went back to rounds after using d.r. highbeams. I'm a twangy kinda guy :)
 
I wanna try those Alchemy strings,the Randy Jackson series.I think Dean Markley make them.The advertising spin says they have a unique gold cover wrap treated over silver plated NPS with stainless steel underwraps,whatever the hell all that means I dunno.But it all sounds pretty snazzy.
 
I dunno Stroud... Sometimes, as with our basses, you actually get what you pay for. I've switched to those somewhat snazzy Optima 24k Gold plated strings and as long as they keep making them, I'll never go back. They are borderline ridiculously expensive but I worked it out.. Using regular strings, say Black Labels, I'll kill them with playing time or corrosion in about a month or less. They're $30 a set. The Optima's, even having to order them from the UK and have them shipped over here cost me $75 a set and last 4-6 months. I'd rather buy the expensive strings that are well-made and don't corrode at all (and sound amazing on every bass I've tried them on so far!) than keep buying less expensive strings that while well-made, don't last as long and end up rusting. Living near the ocean is great for some things, but it's hell on equipment as I'm finding out... ~M~
