Flat wounds on LX broadneck for rock/metal

I would try it. If you don't always need brightness and treble to cut through and having a low mid punch can really fill a nice spot, and work really well with a drummer how likes his double bass pedal. You might need to experiment with flats to get the tone you need, but i'm sure its do able.

From experience TI flats when new would work, D'addario chromes might be better in the long run as they tend to stay brighter. Rotos flats sounded awesome and imo would give you the tone you'd need (standar roto sound with a flat would twist), but when I tried them they didn't last long at all which was a shame. They died on me after 3 weeks, where as TI's last a life time, and my last set of chromes lasted me about 3 years before they got a little grotty (my fault) and i wanted a new set!
 
eye hate low riders and never liked them. I've even bought some sets with a dead string inside. but, hey, it is just me.
I'd agree with Golem and think that no matter what strings you choose, they'll be right for you as long as the band "clicks" together.
Try the flats out and see for your self, if they work, don't bother thinking about what is right or wrong.
