Hi all,

Im finding this a little mind boggling; I have a corvette with antique tobacco stain and even the slightest graze causes the stain to flake off. This leaves a grey colour underneath. I have a streamer in the same stain and this has a more durable finish.

Has anyone any experience with this? Its as if the stain hasn't been sealed in or the the entire bass has been stained with a felt tip pen!

there was a thread about this a while ago, and i think mine is doing it a tiny bit, i think the general concensus was that it just happens?

I did find a thread about it from 2007 but the OP was just going to have it re-sprayed anyway.

Greg; I bought this used in 2008 from a guy who bought it new in 2007. He did tell me that when he bought it he ordered it in antique tobacco. However, it came without any stain and that it had to go back. Warwick then shipped it back in the colour he had requested.

If it peels it aint a stain at all is it? It's just a coloured finish, like coloured polyurethane.

Proper stain can't even ben sanded out.

Is this a Bubinga corvette std? And the finish is Color Oil Finish?

Hi Florin,

This is an ash corvette with antique tobacco colour oil finish.

Any idea if it's worth getting in touch with warwick to see if it's covered by warranty?

If you bought it second hand it cannot be covered by warranty mate, sorry. This looks weird honestly, I don't know what to say. Could you post a larger picture of the bass?

My Streamer is blue coloured oil, I got it NOS, but it sat on a store floor since new so had a few dings here and there, but the finish isn't peeling at any of them.

Ive not used any chemicals or anything on it. I'll have to email Warwick about it to be honest! Here are some more photo's. Small areas albeit but it doens't take much for the flaking to spread.

I had a Washburn refinished and it peeled like that, the finish and catalyst weren't mixed correctly so the finish was too soft and never adhered to the bass correctly.
