My marching band competition last night

This sooo applies to warwick, cause i played my $$ for one of the song a bunch of bassists came up to me i was known as the kid with the fro with the wick playing the harmonics and chords. They said my sound filled up the band. :d All of the other bassists had ibanez's.

Our show was three songs, I only played bass on the 2nd one, which was a ballad.

The other two songs i played vibraphone in.

oh we won first place, we're regional champions :d:d
it makes the 750 hours spent in rehearsal worth it :eek::shock:

I also have a new love for hartke amps after last night, i played through one, it had a more "hi-fi" sound then my markbass how is that possible:?:

So did you play harmonics and chords in the song you played or are you just known to play like that?
 
Markbass aren't that much hi fi sounding amps. If you want real hi fi sounding stuff, try Genz Benz.

Oh and congrats about your competition.

I'd describe markbass as tubey and glassy. Not at all my cup of tea tbh.
 
I'd describe it as fair, and robust solid state sound.
 
sorry kyle, i wrote that as if it was a fact. but it´s just my TASTE.

for me markbass sounds more mid-oriented. my sound that i get from mb-cabs is growly and aggressive (even with a mb-head). but not hi fi.
 
I agree, I've always found MarkBass to be rather 'vintage' -sounding in the sense that there is a definite curve to the sound, its most definitely not close to flat like Epifani or Glockenklang.

At times, when I listen to MarkBass I think it sounds almost like there is a mid-pass filter somewhere which cuts highs and some lows.
 
Matt, is it possible to be because of the Neo drivers inside? They are more mid- oriented.

Hartke, and GK are probably the most brightest amps i've played through, i like it for some stuff, but generally i prefer the high end tamed a bit.

The hifi sound i find comes from the cabs and the only truely 'hifi' stuff i'd say are probably epifani, accugroove and the hellborg stuff - having not tried the hellborg stuff its just speculation, but accugroove and epifani both were the flattest (but not sterile) and probably the nicest sounding cabs i've tried. - if only i had the money for them!

I'm really glad all the hard work & long arsed hours paid off bro.It's really promising to achieve such high standards at such a young age mate.The dedication required to spend that many hours,commited to winning this really speaks volumes about your character.
If I was your dad,& big fat reward would definatly be in order now.

The award is letting me do drum core. I'm so screwed haha, but
in the best way. well...second best way :lol:

I'm audition for Pacific Crest, which is a world class drum core
(world class = best, open class = second best) I'm auditioning
for vibes.

Drum core is basically wake up at 7, eat, play for 3 hours, eat,
play for 3 hours, eat, play for 3 hours, dinner, play for 3 hours,
sleep, repeat.

For 3 months, it's intense as can be.

Oh just on another note, I've decided what i want to do for a career,
i want to become a music teacher, or a band director for high school
and college (i'm not sure which yet) I have been one of the few
fortunate enough to have good music teachers for both middle school
and high school. And it really makes me sad and angry when i see
talented kids that love music but never had people that were qualified
to teach. So i'm planning on getting my degree for that, and getting
an Doctorate in bass (seriously) :P I'm also planning on going to UCLA
my percussion instructor now is the head of the percussion there
(he has a doctorate in percussion) He told me that with my grades and
my playing ability, as long as i don't fail the SAT then i'll be able to get
in (woohoo upright bass cred.)

P.S. i spelled it drum core because thats how you pronounce it
Its really spelled Drum Corps
In the singular form Drum Corps is pronounced drum core
and in the plural for Drum Cores, but still spelled as Drum Corps
