Well, I don't know you guys, but the older I get, the less I care about fútbol (yes, I write it in Spanish), and given the socio-politics situation of the World, it is like right now the World Cup is more about politics than fútbol, or at least that's my impression... that said...

What do you guys think/feel?? Are you excited and can't wait until your favorite country plays its first match or can't care less? Which team are you chearing up?

Let's go!!

muted feelings here

I love football , I am a tragic , deeply addicted fan. Just like I dream of Bass Guitar I also dream of Football

Aotearoa were hot favourites to qualify for 2026 Finals so our East Christchurch Social Group had been making plans regarding travelling to North America. (It's a big thing for NZ to qualify this is only our third time)

Unfortunately that isn't happening due to one of the three hosts fully transitioning into the #1 Terrorist Super Power who deserves nothing but scorn , resistance , boycott and sanction.

My lucky dip Pools team is Paraguay.

I think Biesla can still coach magic so I'm thinking Uruguay might get some $ from me ( NZ TAB)

Obviously I cheer for NZ and they are a slim chance of making the R32 given the appalling way Iran have been treated (imagine FIFA allowing Qatar or Saudi Arabia treat France or England like that!!)

One of the major factors will be the Heat / Humidity - which teams going deep in the tournament can keep their best XI fit for the longest ? France , Spain and Argentina have deep squads

Japan might go OK - could make R16 or even R8

Canada , Haiti , USA , Curaco and Cape Verde , Iraq , Jordan will all do it tough to get through the group stage

Personally, I really do not like football, mainly because of the "oh, I am so hurt" rolling on the ground drama..

Rugby, however.... And especially the All Blacks !!!

I have English , Scottish German and Spanish clients so I will be paying attention to those teams

Today I read the #1 African Referee has been denied access to the USA
his crime is being Somalian

I understand America is a deeply , inherently Racist Nation but is this what the current junta thinks is OK?

Football is the Global Game - For Everyone - Black , Female Gay , Red Haired , Left Handed - even Rickenbacker players - Everyone Egalitarian

I do not envy Americans as their nation and identity burns and their democracy comes down to deciding between far- and extreme rightwing. They really should listen to Bernie more often if they ever want to become a civilized country.

Never cared about football, but I think it is a big shame it has been spoiled yet again this time. I feel as though every time it comes around there is some big controversy that ruins the fun for those that look forward to it. I believe FIFA and the world cup are very corrupt and this is not much different from the last time around, where it was found that thousands of migrant workers were killed by the awful working conditions to build the stadium. I hope for those that enjoy it their country does well, but I'm happy to not partake.

Spain was such a disappoinment against Cabo Verde.
Well, in South Africa they lost their first match and ended wining up the Cup, so, who knows.

that's worth a public holiday in Cape Verde surely
Egypt probably should have beaten Belgium
Uruguay up next then Iran vs NZ at 1PM Kiwi time

We saw some attractive footy here and there though!
Japan maximized against NL once Koeman decided to go for less pressure on the attack side. This was probably a miscalculation by management. I am no expert ofc...

Iran 2, Aotearoa 2 : was a good match
watching France v Senegal now

with Groups B , G and H all being R1 draws it is possible 3 points / 3rd place will get qualification

Germany. No plan, no strategy, no team, no defence, no goals. Even though the 2:1 was stolen. But all in all the soccer team played like Germany works nowadays at all: dysfunctional.

thats what happens when you give the players millions of euros and more power to make decisions then coaches.

NL and Germany out... Paraguay may be a surprise, but Morocco isn't anymore, those guys have a plan.

I agree with you, @Hardy, Germany feels like an improvised team.

German ticky-tacka from the 80s just doesn't work anymore. And teams from Africa and South America are much better nowadays!
