Do you guys and gals do any particular hand exercises?

I do a weird one for my playing hand to help develop my finger alterations. My morning exercise is going on each string from E to G pinky-index, pinky-middle and pinky-ring and back up the same way. Then to index-ring, index-pinky and index-middle. Then to ring-middle, ring-index and ring-pinky and finally, it's middle-pinky, middle to ring and middle to index.

I do this for about 5-10 minutes a day before I begin whatever I have planned for the day.

I saw that book and it looked really good but I had no cash. If you say its 100% recommended than I must get it.

i do these sorts of warm ups. it increses (for me) stamina, finger co-ordination and finger strength

if your not good at using your little finger, this is a great way to start getting proficient

this sort of thing;

start at fret one and go up the neck a fret a time

wish id been doing these since i started because its helps me more than anything else



if anyone wants to propperly adopt this exercise these are the variations and an indication of how much my fingers and brain like them (this is just me though im sure everyone'll find some easier or some harder)

when your bored of all them you can try doing other stuff;

*play with a metronome and change the speed, both fast and slow (i find it hard to keep it steady and nice sounding when playing really slow so its worthwhile practising really slow)
* doing the same thing in weird funky rhythms (play each note twice and syncopate them?)
* go up a fret after after every four notes (instead after working up and down the strings on the same frets)... something like this

I just play the damn thing. Some Muse tracks are good for warming up but besides that I never do any exercises.
 
I do dome scales, and some songs. Parallel universe fromRHCP is good for right hand :-)
