Exclusive Stuart Zender interview... ...by you!

Hi guys,

First let me introduce myself. My name is Chris P and I'm a bass player and journalist. I love Warwick basses and I'm a 'lurker' to this forum for quite a while now. The last couple of days I was in contact with our mod Florin and mr. Wilfer. We came up with this idea and I hope you like it!

I will do an interview with Stuart Zender which is exclusively for this forum. It will be posted here within some weeks. But the great thing is: You can come up with the questions!

The next couple of days you can put your question or questions for mr. Zender here and we'll pick out the best ones and we'll ask those to him. Isn't that nice? So come on and post your questions. There must be some things you always wanted to ask Stuart.

If you like this idea and the result we'll try to do the same with other famous Warwick endorsers too.

Questions:
* What made you want to go back playing Warwicks again, and why didn't you choose a 5-string as your signature bass? They seemed so synonym with your playing style and person.

* How did you choose the design for the SZ bass, and how was the general design process?

* What made you choose Warwick in the first place when playing with Jamiroquai?

* What bassists influence you today?

* Will you use the SZ bass on stage with Mark Ronson?

I always wonder what kind of a formal music background a established
musician has.


I would ask:

1.) Have you ever gotten lessons or have gone to school for music
theory?

2.) If not then how do you come up with improv. stuff and how do you
keep it new instead of using the same lines over and over again?

3.) How often do you practice?

4.) What do you practice if you do?


Other questions would be:

1.) What's your current rig setup like? (Including rack and pedals)

2.) What synth pedals did you use with Jamiroquai (or still) use?

3.) What are the top 5 most played artists on your ipod?

4.) What are your future plans with music (bands, recordings, etc.)?

-any new band, music or musician that impressed you? can you share a bit about that
 
-What do you think your greatest weakness was or is, and how did you/do you counter balance it?

-What helped you stay disciplined in practicing while coming up as a bass player?

-The music industry is changing alot right now, and this definitly holds true for side men and freelance bass players. What would be your advice to bass players trying to be succesful professional musicians in the next 10-20 years?
 
Welcome Chris, and thanks for doing this! I think it is a great idea, and I am very happy that Stuart has accepted to reply to our questions, there are many things I would like to know too, after all Stuart is the reason I bought my first Warwick in 95 :-)
 
What were your main ideas when creating the shape of your signature bass?

How does this bass compares to your present P bass?

Ask Stu what he was looking for tone wise with the sig bass.

Did you design the bass yourself, or did you give specs and approve the design that Warwick came up with?
 
Well this kind of goes along with thndrstk's formal training and practice questions, but I would like to know what is his feelings in regards to modes.

Q) Did he learn and practice them as he was honing his talent?

Q) If not, is there any specific reason he didn't?

Q) If so, does he continue to practice them now that he is an established and accomplished bassist?

and finally
Q) Now that he is so well established/accomplished with his own style and sound, does he find they still play a significant role in his playing?

Oh Sorry 1 more... (I think it just begs to be asked)
Q) Has he ever checked out a RockBass and if so, what's his opinion of them?

What advice can you give to the bass players who follow in your steps and want to achieve a level like yours? (please you must correct the question, i don't speak English well thanks)
 
Question:

If you had to choose between vocals only and bass only in a band setting, what would you choose ? You did both on Leroi stuff, which was great, but have you ever thought of pursuing a career as a vocalist only, since people know you for your bass playing and not your amazing voice ?

Cool idea! i can't wait to read the responses, i'd submit a question but i'm really not very good at coming up with them!
