Electronic problem! Please help.

Ok so I have a Corvette Proline that has the active/passive push/pull volume pot on it. When I have it set to passive it works fine but when I set it to active it just shuts off and no more noise. I took it to a Warwick dealer/repair shop and after a week (man I just wanted it back) he still can't figure it out. He says it's either the volume pot or the EQ pot. He said that most likely it's the EQ bc the volume pot still works and switches between active and passive. Does anyone have any experience with this before I throw money at new stuff? Thankfully since he couldn't fix it he isn't charging me for troubleshooting! Thanks.

Man I guess I have to buy the whole thing anyway. Damn. Anyway, does anyone have any other ideas? Could it be the jack for any reason? Many years ago when I was in like 10th or 11th grade I took my bass to get a new jack put in and that's when the problem started. I know I should of taken it back to get them to fix what they had broken but it was a friend of my fathers that didn't charge me and I didn't really use the active side much back then. I still get killer tones out of it now but I just wish I could use it for it's full potential. Do you think it could be anything to do with the wrong kind of jack because the ones in the shop look very different. He put in a standard no-name bass jack. Thanks again!

that they confirmed 9vdc was running
into the EQ-pre ? Just checking basics.

I don't know. I can call and ask though. They did their normal trouble shooting and said that they are at a point where they don't have the equipment to test further. Should I call and ask exactly what they checked? They probably did everything a normal repair shop has the equipment to do (whatever that is).

I dunno, a good tech had his working place near our rehearsals room - same building. And I had problems with amps, electronics, etc... He never told me "I don't know what it is"... And he gave the results usually very fast. The onboard preamp is a very simple design, come on, he does not know if it is the pot? Go and measure it!!! Any TV repair shop could do it better I guess.

Luckily he didn't charge me anything so maybe I will go to someone else. I really need to learn how to do this sort of thing myself.

Hi,
I assume you have passive pups so it may be a problem with the battery voltage supply.
Have you tried a new battery(sounds obvious but you never know).
If the battery is good then as golem suggests check for 9volts dc at the EQ board.
You can do a continuity test on all the cables by using a multimeter to check for a broken cable.
Check for any loose connections,especially the jack connections as the middle connection is what switches on the active circuit when a jack is inserted.
A wiring diagram is available from the main Warwick site which you may find helpfull.

Ok, thanks for the great tips. I will be checking that stuff soon. Also I noticed today while messing around (party on purpose partly not) the passive side still won't work when there's no battery in it (and it is new). When I had it switched to active and plugged in and I messed with the battery noise did come out of the speaker. It was like a popping noise.
