Well, I'm kind of a n00b on the bass. drums are my main instrument. only been playing bass for about a year, so please excuse me if the questions i ask around the forum aren't intelligent ones.

on to the main subject! i don't know too much about effects for guitar/bass, but they interest the crap out of me. about the only ones i really know what they do and how to use pedals that create them are: distortion, (over)drive, wah, reverb.

any chance theres someone out there who would like to take just a little bit o' time to explain to me some other common effects? i've heard of ones like chorus, flanger, phaser and whatnot, and i can have any random guy at my local stores explain how they affect the wave signal majigger stuff, but i never remember such explanations. i'd rather just have an accurate description of the actual SOUND difference each effect creates.

and just another note: the bassist from 311, he has this nice deep, thick growl out of his bass that i absolutely love. is that his bass/pickups/equalization/amp, or is it an effect? and if an effect, which one?

to anyone who explains this to me once and for all, you have my eternal gratitude

Pretty much every effect a bass player could want.... and sound clips to match.

P-nut's thick growl you mention is a combo of Warwick basses, SWR amps, and slight effects.

I'm sure others will post, but this should be a good start.

Yes, the EBS site is very good because they have the soundclips and here are mine (just had to post them again). I tend to use less and less effects. My main effects are the Compressor, and the reverb (great for fretless). Also use the octaver, can, give you a very nice synth effect as well. Cheers / mats
