Effects send/return

When ever i use my effects pedals i plug the guitar into the input and the output to my amp. On my new amp it has an effect send and return could i connect my efftect pedals into these or is it just for efftect proccesors and if so what is the diifernce?

You could perfectly plug in to this input and output, basically what they do is (as their name describes) to insert the effect into the signal path going through your amplifier. This way you can always plug in your instrument directly to your amp. Also most amplifiers that have this feature will give you the opportunity to make the insert pre-EQ or post-EQ which is something you might want to have depending on the sound of your bass and what you want to get out of your pedal.

Effects loops are ideal for time-based effects (chorus, flanger, delay) but not for others (compression and distortion), which you want in front of your preamp. Best wishes.

i've been butting my 19" compresser in my effects loop along with my 19" effects processor. I use the effects processor only for reverb usually on the bass. Would it be better to put the signal through the compressor before the amp while keeping the effects processer in the loop?

The reverb should work best in the effects loop, but yeah, assuming it doesn't mean more cables running everywhere I'd give the compressor a try in front of your preamp. You'll likely get a more noticeable effect that way. I don't use compression myself, but most heads with built-in compressors (say the Ampeg SVT-4PRO), are in-front of the preamp. Best wishes.

This is exactly the way to do it... as far as i have ever heard! Any sort of EQ (like a graphic) needs to go in front too!

I agree with you guys, and it saves you a lot of space, in the studio or in live gig, you clear all the area around you, at the same time your cables get e bit more years of life, it's a cool function!!
