Great review - just don't count on your passive mode if your battery dies, because Warwick's passive mode doesn't work without batteries.

In this case it works, because it has passive pickups and active eq, so it works even without a battery. The ones with active pickups do not work without battery and this is normal for any bass manufacturer.

At last!!!! I´ve been waiting for this review since Ed anounced it on his Facebook profile.

Ooh man, if I was gassing for a LX these days, now I´m having some serious thoughts about getting one...

Niceeee! Been waiting for this one for a long time. Great bass. Though any bass sounds good and versatile in the hands of the Bass Whisperer.
 
Yes i agree with all things said i like to add, that fingerstyle Neck PU ooooohhh that sounds real sexy, super bass, nothing more to add :)

You're right - I just checked on my Streamer $$ and it works without the battery. My Vampyre doesn't work, and neither did my Corvette ProLine if memory serves - I guess they both had active pickups. Makes me wonder why there' s a "passive" mode on these basses anyway!

Passive mode isnt an accurate way to describe the way these things work.
The volume knob, when pulled, bypasses the onboard preamp.
This is especially useful when recording.

The tone with the preamp bypassed is in fact different... More direct and clear to my ears, with slightly more mids, at least on the 2-band pre on my Streamer (active J pickups). Also without any added noise/hiss from the preamp, although the MEC pre I find extremely quiet. :)
 
I wonder how diferent a standard Streamer LX sounds compared to this SE. I mean, ebony fretboard, Barts, redwood body top... I´m sure those diferences have to make some influence in the sound. Any thoughts?

As Greg said, it is not a "passive mode", it is a Preamp ON/Preamp Bypassed switch.
 
Yeah, I guess to my ears I much prefer the sound of the flat EQ than to the EQ bypassed - I don't know how to put it, but there just seems to be some treble and bass missing, at least on the axes I've owned. But for me, the 2-band active EQ is set at exactly the right frequencies, so I can goose them without getting a horrible tone!

Nice bass! Ed is a great teacher and player...glad he likes the Streamer LX.
 
Following up on this--how different is the SE USA edition from the regular LX?

I understand that the regular one has active pups and the SE has passive Barts. But what about their tone?
 
It sounds to have more mids to me. I like that kind of mid growl it has.
