I saw some people refinish the bass, and I wish my fingerboard can look like ebony so can any body tell me is it possible to dye the fingerboard in black, and the tone still as good as before...
It should be possible to do, can't see any problems. However, with the strings contantly being pushed against the fretboard you might find the dye will slowly ware away, like you get on some warwicks where people rest their thumb above the pickup.
It won't affect the tone at all, its just like dying the body of the bass.
It basically means that your strings don't actually ever touch the fingerboard, so when u have applied the dying agent you won't ever need to do it again. You won't damage the frets of the fingerboard, so if you know what dye to use then go for it.
