Durability???

Is an extra insurance plan needed with a warwick.

I recently bought a Corvette Standard Ash 5 from an online site, i dont want to say who(im embarrassed but it was on the cheap). They offered me a three year coverage plan. Cost of $120 US. Im not sure that im gonna need this and i have another couple weeks to cancel it. Ive never had or known anyone personally who had one. So my question is: Is an extra protection plan necessary for a Warwick.


So a poll i guess?

The Warwick distributers will provide support if needed. I got a new gig bag and Jan 3 nut with no questions asked, with both being sevearl years old and bought used. Save your money and buy another Wick or strings or whatever you desire.
 
I've owned a much cheaper bass (my shine, which was only £160 brand new) for 6 years and its had a fair few knocks and is still working fine. End of the day the insurance will probably only cover major breakages (such as neck snappin etc) which is very unlikely, and if - on the off chance - something goes wrong with the electrics it'll be fairly cheap to fix anyway.

My opinion is don't waste your money on the insurance, it won't cover cosmetic flaws like buckle rash and that's almost certainly gonna be the only thing that you'll get with the 'wick.

My 'Wick Fortress was built in '93 and is in better working condition than the shine bass, these beasties are built to last!!

I would say in your situation it would depend on what you will be doing with it. a Corvette.. possibly not. now an LTD 2008... or a CS... yes.

also you have to consider that if this is brand new it will have Warwick's service first. I think i would say no since many Warwicks old and new i have seen they are pretty much in good shape (just a few exceptions just like 5% or so and I have seen A LOOOOOOT of them. they last forever .
 
The bass is guaranteed for 2 years to the original owner.Alot of us here have seen out of warranty gear covered for longer than that.I wouldnt bother with it.

do you travel a lot? if yes, then do what Lex did and insure that bass ...

however, is that your final warwick (which game show was this question asked again? lol)? if its a no, and you want to get those more expensive ones or a CS, then i suggest you dont insure that bass because you will only end up reselling it anyway.
 
I'd prefer to spend a little more fixing an existing problem, than paying 120 US $ for nothing :-)

as stated above, the warranty is 2 years, so you are basically paying 120 for a year extra of coverage, which is too much anyway.

I know there are certain circumstances that require repairs, but I've yet to have an issue with a bass that couldn't be resolved through the company or its distributor for less than 20 bucks.

The bottom line is, they want to keep you as a customer and will do as much as they can to help.

I've gotten free replacement pots, nuts, tools and parts of EQ's from Warwick and other companies simply because the part was defective even though it was a older/used bass.

Insurance can also cover theft,loss &/or damage caused in transit.But it sounds alot like this policy is aimed at faulty equipment rather than an act of god or act of a thieving bastard.But I agree,it's not necesary.
Giles,(Gman) iirc has alot of experience regarding musical instrument insurance.I think Golem'll know some too.
 
I NEVER go for those extended warranty jobbies on anything... and I've now saved enough money on it to pay for a new bass/TV/fridge/cooker etc etc... or whatever else decides to self-destruct next.
It always makes me laugh when you go to buy anything... say a TV, and the salesman touts it as "ultra-reliable"... then expects you to pay £££s for an extended warranty!
Note: not the same as insurance though... that's a different matter entirely!

Edit: If you're gigging, the insurance is a good idea... especially third party insurance1
 
Extended warantee's are more hassle than they are worth. My $$ just has the warrantee expire and nothing is wrong with it. Its still like the day i bought it.

Warwicks last fact and if something does screw up, they have great Customer service which sorts out the problem asap for you.
 
Yep thats what i thought to begin with. Then the dude told me i had 45 das to cancel it. Which i wanted to do anyway, but i wanted to ask you guys. This is not like the normal forums i frequent(full of sh*t). I have already come to trust you guys just from the extensive reading ive done here.


I dont travel with it YET. If i do ill get an ATA case anyway. Those are reusable.
I am also about to get a separate writer for my home insurance cause im topping $15K with all of my gear now, and my home owners insurance is not going to want to buy 12 new guitars and preamps and mics and stuff.
How do you put a price on a Mint '86 Jackson Soloist anyway.

Now i did pay for the one with my $2500 LCD it includes once a year cleaning for 3 years. They break they buy, and TV models dont stick around too long. Feel Me?

Make sure you read all the small print on the insurance policy before you sign. I wasted money on a musical instrument policy for two years before I realised it didn't really cover me for what I wanted (leaving stuff locked in my car wasn't covered because I didn't have a "separate lockable compartment" - I only left stuff locked in the car for brief moments, but you know sod's law!)
